I need to do a bit more research into postpartum depression and pica. Maybe demonology if I decide to go in that direction. I also need to understand her husband's horrid family before I go any further. Right now, everything is in mental draft form.

I've written about a third of the story. Now, I'm stuck. Not sure where it goes that isn't predictable. I'm coming up with a few ideas. Most are ridiculous. Once I figure this out, I may need to rewrite some of what I've already written. That's fine.

I'm sorry you went through that. I'm researching PPD. I didn't have it when I was pregnant. I'm bipolar. What was unusual for me was that I didn't have one mood swing while pregnant. Once I gave birth, eight months later the mood swings started again and I had to stop nursing. Best to you!

#FirstDraftFall - I'm going to read up on pica & postpartum depression today. My main character has both. Once I learn more the meat of the story shall come to me. I also need to develop her husband & his family's lack of character. The guy is a menace & his parents aren't much better.

#WeeknightWriters - Melanie has postpartum depression and pica. Eating inanimate objects gives her a feeling of control she doesn't have in other aspects of her life. She has swallowed a cat's laser pointer toy, a ceramic turtle, a maneki-neko key chain, and a dessert spoon. So far.

It's fun and satisfying to write a complete scene. It's like a fractal; scenes have a beginning, middle, and end like the entire story itself. It's good practice to write that way at least for me. #WeeknightWriters

#WeeknightWriters - I've been writing flash fiction lately so the word count is very important. Flash fiction forces me to learn to be concise esp. since I usually have only about 1,000 words to work with.

He's only four months old so I'm sure he'll outgrow it. When? I don't know, LOL. So your cat has pica? Eating dryer sheets? 😸

#WeeknightWriters - I measure by scene. If I can finish a scene in one sitting, I'm happy. I also measure by word count since the submission calls tend to have a limit.

Our older cat Meriwether has always left my decorations alone. Harley the kitten is a different story. Everything goes in his mouth. LOL If it's loose, he'll knock it over. And he collides into everything! But he's a good kitty. #WeeknightWriters

I'm like you. I write what I like and what I enjoy the most, which turns out to be horror most often. I don't follow trends. I think following trends is a mistake. By the time you've finished your story, the trend is old news. I write whatever my brainstorms inspire me to write.
