From Edric Hopkinson 6th May βDWT does own the land which is leased to the Golf Course and where the hide is located. Since the completion of the Environment Agency sea defences and subsequent storm damage, access to the hide has only been possible via the land which is occupied by the Golf Course.
26.06.2025 08:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0So Iβve given up with Devon Wildlife Trust and I am very disappointed with them.
26.06.2025 07:30 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0β¦if they created a short path (30 metres?) from the top of dune ridge down to inner bay. I am surprised that they have allowed access to top of dune ridge from beach. Surprised as I thought they wouldnβt welcome the extra erosion. Anyway Devon Wildlife Trust didnβt bother to reply to my suggestion.
26.06.2025 07:29 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hi Paul β¦ Devon Wildlife replied to me(after I chased) to say there are no plans to allow access to hide as access would have to cross private land i.e. the golf course. I pointed out that pre 2020 the path went across the dunes (north of golf course) which could happen again if β¦
26.06.2025 07:23 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Hi Paul
FYI I did email Devon Wildlife Trust over this issue on 1st April. Perhaps they thought it was an April Fool as they havenβt replied as yet. I have resent my email today. Ignoring your members is not a good look.
Jim
Hi Bill, I think itβs about the right time. Certainly a few have been reported in the country recently but I havenβt heard of any others in Devon. However I suspect there are others out there now.
11.04.2025 16:53 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Cuckoo at Emsworthy today.
11.04.2025 16:01 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thank you. Iβll inquire with DWT although I am not hopeful. I contacted Teignbridge but they presented a list of problems as to why the hide canβt be accessed and could not offer any solutions. I assume that understandably itβs a very low priority to them.
31.03.2025 17:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hello Paul This morning I came across your post of 8 months ago concerning Devon Wildlife Trust becoming responsible for the hide at the Warren and thus I assume the access to it. Do you know please if they did take responsibility as I havenβt noticed any change on site? Thank you Jim Summers
31.03.2025 08:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Cattle Egret thinking about leaving itβs roost at Powderham. Counted about 45 cattle egret there at 8:30 today but I expect there were more. Bullfinch in a hedge close by. Long billed Dowitcher still at Turf Locks. #DevonBirds
28.02.2025 16:55 β π 12 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Had to go to Bournemouth on Friday so took the chance to visit RSPB Arne yesterday. Siskin and White-tailed Eagle - fairly easy to tell which is which! #UKBirds
23.02.2025 10:31 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1Hi Bill
Donβt know the status of Treecreeper in the UK (wouldnβt be surprised if they were declining like most other stuff) but if I was a Treecreeper then I would fly off somewhere warmer at the moment. Itβs bleak out there!
Jim
I only saw one Treecreeper at Dunsford. No problem with their song as I can no longer hear those high frequencies! #DevonBirds
14.02.2025 08:33 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0One of several Dippers on river Teign near Dunsford yesterday. Their song causes me some initial confusion before I realise what is singing. #DevonBirds
14.02.2025 08:29 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Spotted Redshank in Cockwood harbour + White fronted Goose at Turf Locks. Both today. #DevonBirds

30.01.2025 17:30 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great Northern Diver on River Exe
Kingfisher on river wall.
Sparrowhawk perched on gate.
Rock or Water Pipit?
Birds on Exe yesterday between cycle bridge & Exminster Marshes viewing platform. Great Northern, Kingfisher, Sparrowhawk and a Pipit which I believe is either Rock or Water Pipit. Too distant for my skills, photos too blurred, no scope. It seemed very pale so i lean toward Water pipit. #Devonbirds
