it would just be a completely different experience (and it almost certainly wouldn’t exist at all like. being an rpg maker game is baked into funger at the DNA level)

and only made an rpg maker game bc he couldn’t afford to or something and not that… he wanted to make an rpg maker game and that means the scope and aesthetic and problems that come along with it

there are plenty of bugs but they’re all well known at this point and there’s mods that deal with them and it’s not like he’s ever remotely discouraged modding lol. i just hate that people assume he was dreaming of making some sprawling aaa epic

the amount of characterization you can do with tiny details in pixel sprite animations alone is amazing to me! i hate the idea its an inferior art form or that realism would make it obsolete

it’s to the point where i find the whole AAA vibe very unappealing 😭

+ relatedly i think de-makes are fascinating and a testament to how the visual style of older games has value on its own, not that every old or small game is a temporarily embarrassed 4k 1080p high fidelity AAA production

obviously i think game remakes can be tremendously interesting and meaningful on their own (says the pathologic 2 fan) but they have to have a reason to exist that isn’t just “what if the same game but the graphics were better”
