They export war
Then criminalize refugees.
They destabilize economies
Then lecture us about corruption.
They burn the house
Then blame the smoke.

"Abughazaleh believes that Democrats have long failed to meet the moment of taking on the far right. For her and many progressive challengers across the country, countering the Trump administration is inextricably linked to combating the influence of groups such as Aipac and challenging the corporate status quo.

Abughazaleh said: "I even see it in my own campaign where there are local leaders and elected officials that call me before endorsing one of my opponents, apologetically saying, I love what you're doing but I'm feeling a lot of pressure to endorse this way or the other. They feel that pressure in the first place instead of being able to stick to their values and it's a shame that we have a party that makes people feel like that."

"I don't know how many times we have to keep doing the same thing over and over and over again of insisting that we have to be more moderate, that we have to move to the right," Abughazaleh added, arguing that policies ensuring affordable housing, groceries and healthcare should represent the political centre."

You don’t beat the far right with moderation. You have to confront it.

Career politicians are unequipped to handle this moment. It’s time for them to step aside.

I'm begging my fellow politicians, Illinoisans, and Americans to realize that right now, we aren't fighting over policy or political party.

We're fighting over whether we're going to be a country rooted in empathy and kindness β€” or one rooted in cruelty and rage.

"Mario" shares, "I'm a strawberry picker. I wake up at 4:30 in the morning to work for 4 to 5 hours in this cold damp weather. I end up earning $60 to $80. I do it with great pride. Farm workers are essential. We put food on America's tables." #WeFeedYou

It also points out how the cultural ignorance of much of our pundit & MSM class fails. 135 million Americans watched an important & controversial cultural event & many journalists are 1)ill-equipped to explain its significance or 2) too arrogant to know that would need assistance in unpacking it.

Absolutely. I got in a lot of trouble when I was in school in Texas for refusing to participate in compulsory Christian and rah rah America bullshit. Plus, I committed the grave sin of getting other kids to reject it too. This was back when corporal punishment was still a thing, but it was worth it

Eulogy for our girl, Lola.
Lola.

Our girl is gone. She left us last Sunday in the early afternoon. I couldn't write about her for days. I just remembered her breath on my palm as I held her head in my handβ€”while she slipped away. I believe she felt relieved.

She was such a silly girl. Ninety pounds of wiggle and enthusiasm and vocalizations that ranged from Guinea pig, to siren, to soft wuffs and sighs.

There are specific images that Jenn and I keep seeing in our minds. I used to say. β€œBack when Lola was a potato…” And then her legs sprouted and she was like a mandrake root. Then, suddenly she was sleek, but always, always silly. Her mob name was Lola the Fool, and she had a jester’s hat on her tag. That girl sure loved being loved.

Lola was a singular girl, who really came into her own this past year. She missed her pack, her Billy especially, but Lola revelled in being an only dog.

We will miss the shape of Lola in our lives. She was the last of our pack. πŸ’”

Ms. Omar, visibly shaken after the assault, insisted to her staff and security that she would continue. She asked for a napkin and told them: "Just give me 10 minutes. I beg you. Please don't let them have the show."
Ms. Omar then turned the crowd. "Here's the reality that people like this ugly man don't understand," she said. "We are Minnesota strong, and we will stay resilient in the face of whatever they might throw at us."
Someone in the crowd later thanked Ms.
Omar for staying and continuing after the assault, which had shaken not only her but the entire room.
"I learned at a young age you don't give in to threats," Ms. Omar said.
