Like, we can say it’s culture wars &/or for material reasons. That’s legit, no arguments from me. But I do think that ultimately when anyone stews in a working environment for too long that literally looks to define & create in-groups & out-groups for solving life’s problems then we get where we are

I’m sure this is already a thing that’s studied & written extensively about of course

I have a theory on why the tech industry is fash, but I’m not academic enough & I’m too lazy/busy with my life to research & write about it - too much exposure to algorithms (ie the sorting of information into binary groups) as a solution to everything reduces & skews your view of individual humans

That to me is a very succinct example of being dishonourable

I reckon the venn diagram of people with that mindset and people who think AI will take over deejaying is closer to a circle than most

I guess what I’m trying to say here is that one approach to deejaying tries to meet people half way and that’s kind of how I see it for my own way, but that approach quickly falls into absurdity went you’re confronted with opinionated idiots in an online chat group

In case you’re wondering, the tune was “Turn It Up (Acid Dub)” by Sharif Laffery. It’s a straight-up monstrous acid house banger, that happens to roll at around 110bpm

One lad argued with me that a tune I played couldn’t be “house” because it was under 120bpm. Lol, and what’s funnier is that I’m sure he took from the encounter that I’m the ignorant one

This pervasive idea that a DJ set should be in one bpm & only on one vibe is so wrong, but you’d be surprised how many really lose their cool at any slight deviance from their perceived restrictions

Sometimes I worry that my deejaying is too normie & that I should do it weirder, but I had a lovely guest on our show last week whose hard house loving listeners were bordering on being offended by my tempo-shifting sections & mixing. That gives me comfort that I’m probably in a sweet spot with it

Anyway this just anecdotal of course. Same cohort fully subscribed to the notion that Connolly is a stooge for Putin 🤦

FF voters in my work circle not at all enthusiastic at the prospect of voting for Humphries. Some saying they’ll vote Gavin regardless. What a delightful cluster fuck they’ve created for themselves
