www.wsj.com/politics/ele...

WSJ is not my first source of news, but this story came across my news feed and I thought it was worth throwing this shit grenade over the wall. Just imagine the triumphant return of Ronny “Platform Boots” DeFuckface.

Ugh, we’re in the upside down.

Kakistocracy is a word we need to hardwire in our collective vernacular. That’s exactly what this is.

Am I crazy or does Kash Patel’s necktie from his official DoD photo feature paddle boarders? Admittedly, it’s the least concerning thing about this whole situation, but I feel like I need an answer. What’s the reason?? Did he not get the official photo memo? Was it the deep state????

Get @marcelias.bsky.social and @democracydocket.com lined up to start helping with the inevitable recount process! Too close to call! And watch out for those sus middle-of-the-night “follow dumps.” I don’t think we’ll need Mike Pence for this one though…

First, is that a paddle boarder tie for his official photo? I’m all for sports & rec, but c’mon. Second, he looks like he just got caught at one of Matt Gaetz’s parties. Watch out truth tellers, he’s gonna try to come after us all.

Recent analyses provide detailed insights into the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) across various generation technologies:

LCOE by Generation Type:
	•	Utility-Scale Solar PV: Lazard’s 2023 report indicates an LCOE range of approximately $24 to $96 per megawatt-hour (MWh) for utility-scale solar photovoltaic systems.
	•	Solar PV Plus Storage: Combining solar PV with storage results in an LCOE between $70 and $150 per MWh, reflecting the added costs of energy storage systems.
	•	Natural Gas Combined Cycle: The LCOE for natural gas combined cycle plants ranges from $39 to $101 per MWh, depending on factors like fuel prices and plant efficiency.
	•	Coal: Coal-fired power generation has an LCOE between $65 and $152 per MWh, influenced by fuel costs, environmental regulations, and plant technology.

Consumer Price Breakdown by Energy Source:

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) outlines that retail electricity prices comprise several components:
	•	Generation Costs: The expenses associated with producing electricity, varying by energy source.
	•	Transmission and Distribution Costs: The costs of delivering electricity from power plants to consumers, including infrastructure maintenance.
	•	Other Costs: Encompass administrative fees, taxes, and regulatory compliance costs.

These components’ proportions can vary based on the energy mix, regional policies, and market dynamics.

This simple chart I made using data from Lazard, USEIA shows the Levelized Cost of Energy (LCOE) including consumer prices and transmission infrastructure costs. Solar (even with storage) outcompetes coal and natural gas. Clean energy isn’t just greener—it’s smarter for your wallet and the grid.

The Book • Ishmael.org, the work & philosophy of Daniel Quinn Ishmael the novel. Ishmael teaches that which all humans need to learn - must learn - if our species, and the rest of life on Earth is to survive.

In Ishmael, Daniel Quinn challenged us to rethink the stories we tell ourselves—the myths of progress, control, & human dominance. Those myths are cracking: climate chaos, inequality, political decay. The question isn’t whether they’ll collapse—it’s what story we’ll choose to write next.

We’re probably going to have to just settle for disagreeing on this one. I have a wholehearted disdain for the public persona that Jennings puts out there as a conservative pundit. My values don’t align with his, and I think he’s just awful. Your point is well taken though.

Scott Jennings has mastered the art of pointing out flaws in others’ logic while never owning his own. His arguments are deflectionary, his logic weak, and his track record shows him to be a consummate apologist for the wealthy and the right. In my opinion he shouldn’t be on an editorial board. 🤷

“Sides” is such a reductive and lazy way to frame this. I don’t blindly support everything someone on the left does, just like I hope you don’t for your ‘side.’ Pointing out hypocrisy isn’t whataboutism—it’s holding people to consistent standards.

Ishmael by Daniel Quinn is a great read too if you haven’t already.

Music: a lot of Amistat lately, Martin Sexton, Gabe Dixon, Greta Van Fleet, Lindsey Buckingham, I’m all over the place. Jon Batiste is a genius.

Love it! Pirsig’s Zen…Motorcycle Maintenance is a go-to for my existential and metaphysical questions. I’ve found myself curiously shifting away from Descartes and the “I think therefore I am” narrative, but still valuing the Cartesian duality of mind and body. Like, I’m more than my thoughts…

And yeah, finding a band is something I want to do too, even if it’s just to rehearse or workshop.

Nice!! I lived in Gold Country for a while, loved it, but CO is home. I have some friends in NC and they love it there too

One of the hardest parts of being an artist (IMO & experience) is replacing the torment of creating with admiration. Liking songs you wrote is huge! I’m still working on that

Stigma: man that’s a tough one. Stigma isn’t just in the eye of the beholder—it’s a choice. As more people own their truths unapologetically, the power of stigma weakens. Maybe it’s not obsolete yet, but it’s losing ground to a new narrative where authenticity outshines shame.

It has to be our time. I know you know this, but worth reminding: Philosophers were the beating heart of the Bohemian age, the ones who turned ideals into movements and questions into revolutions. In a time of resistance & reinvention they were the centerpieces of a world daring to dream differently

2. I’m writing about fighting daily demons of depression and PTSD, overcoming self imposed limitations, finding one’s voice, love. Hard to make much progress with another full time gig in utility scale renewables, but I suppose it’s moonlighting. A little of what you love goes a long way.

1. Seems like we’re simpatico on that. I started my college years with a full ride vocal scholarship, decided to hop around majors and colleges for 4 years not knowing. Joined the military for direction. Found engineering. Still want to be a full time musician. That dream never left.

Jennings’ whataboutism is so dizzyingly stupid and obvious. It’s petty contrarianism for the sake of a balanced appearance. He’s a spineless piece of shit, only second to Dr. Pat.
