It really is astonishing that anyone bought the argument that Brexit would ‘settle’ the immigration question in the UK. People who made this argument should hang their heads in shame.

(1) The prime minister should call out racism whether or not it’s politically convenient to do so.
(2) I absolutely do not believe this is a vote loser for Labour, especially if done right and with conviction

If you don’t like being called a racist, maybe don’t make a career of saying things that appeal to racists, don’t create a political party that keeps attracting racist candidates, don’t fawn over racist world leaders, and don’t make a convicted racist the guest of honour at your party conference.

Can someone ask Farage or Zia Yusuf why, if they're so concerned about incitement to violence, they had Lucy Connolly as a guest star at their conference?

It shows such a basic lack of political understanding that Labour didn't go straight on the attack over this.

Just because most people are worried about immigration being too high it doesn't mean they're psychopaths.

I do think X is seriously damaging the brains of the UK political class. It's wildly unrepresentative of actual public opinion but is still being treated as such.

It’s incredibly notable today that Labour doesn’t want to say anything against the *aim* of Farage’s policies.

But: where has the government been all summer? Was there even an *attempt* to push any other political stories? Farage and the online right had a totally clear stage for immigration.

What if "big data" just…isn't worth very much? I'm not saying the emperor has no clothes. I am saying his clothes are cheap, tacky, don't work and are seriously overrated.
