I watch CCC regularly and, yes, there are often sharks. Usually nurse and lemon, but once there was a hammerhead!

Where do you find fossils of this age in SC? I've hunted for Oligocene fossils down by Charleston, but nothing older than that.

Is it wrong that I initially thought these were photos of chicken nuggets? (Props to paleontologists! I would *never* have seen this and thought "that looks like a lizard skull.")

I've been watching @coralcitycamera.bsky.social regularly for the past 8 months or so and, with few exceptions, I struggle to identify hamlet species. It's good to know there might be a reason for it.

Anything that's not about great whites or bull sharks. They're cool and all, but that's all I ever see in docs. Give me content on the ones that don't show up in When Sharks Attack: thresher sharks, greenland sharks, bonnethead sharks . . .

As an academic publisher and a brindle greyhound owner, I can confirm.

This is why I follow paleontologists, even though I'm a musicologist--practical fossil information!

New question: how big did these dolphins get? Are they larger than modern dolphins?

A smiling woman holding a fossil dolphin ear bone.

Ashby Gale identified it as
cf. Tursiops, (definitely a delphinid periotic). He also gets the photo credit.

Thanks to one of your posts, I recognized a funny rock I found as a dolphin ear bone while on a fossil trip last year. Much appreciated.

Recently finished OverLondon by @georgepenney.bsky.social. Now I can't wait for the sequel.

If you went to college
1. what was your career goal when you started?
2. your initial major?
3. if you changed majors, what did you change to?
4. what do you do now, professionally?

1. opera singer
2. vocal performance
3. dropped theater minor, added music history
4. direct a university press

Nicely done! Macarons are the only fancy baking I can do, but I’ve never done dual fillings. 😋

The dude either wrote folk music or violin/horn music and stuck words under it. He never understood how to write for the voice.

A slender tropical wrasse. It is mostly white with two horizontal black stripes running from head to tail and a yellow and red tail. It is called a slippery dick.

I was watching @coralcitycamera.bsky.social and trying to identify the types of fish. This is how I learned of the "slippery dick." I have questions . . .
