At any rate, just to make it clear: it’s a very sharp, well presented, clearly argued video essay by @acheunderscore.bsky.social, and I’m glad to have her work on my radar now.

I haven’t played Expedition 33, but seriously—has every single critic I follow and generally respect just dropped the ball completely on the cultural antecedents of this game? Or has this been an element of the conversation I just happened to miss?

I’ve only watched about 20 minutes of @acheunderscore.bsky.social’s thoughtful exploration of the racist, orientalist elements of Expedition 33, but already I’m deeply disappointed in the extent to which none of it has been part of the conversation I’ve heard from the US/UK critical community.
