EU: Ministers propose unprecedented detention, sanctions, and stripping of rights based on migration status
The EU’s insistence on ramping up deportations, raids, surveillance, and detention at any cost is dogged and misguided.
BREAKING: EU Ministers propose unprecedented detention, sanctions, and stripping of rights based on migration status.
Mirroring the US, EU proposals will tear families apart & devastate communities. They must be reversed immediately, says @oliviasundberg.bsky.social

RSF's attacks on Zam Zam IDP camps should be investigated as war crimes
The relentless assault caused around 400,000 people to flee the camp between 13 and 14 April alone.
A new @amnesty.org report documents how Rapid Support Forces attacked Zamzam camp in Darfur, Sudan in April.
RSF killed civilians, took hostages, pillaged & destroyed civilian structures including a mosque, school & clinic.
These violations must be investigated as war crimes.

People who save lives should not be criminalized
European governments are not only failing people seeking protection, they’re also punishing those who try to fill that dangerous gap.
As Seán Binder goes on trial in Lesvos tomorrow for helping people in distress, @amnestyvl.bsky.social's director Wies de Graeve reflects on why people who save lives should be supported, not criminalized #HumanityMustWin www.politico.eu/article/sean...

No more preventable deaths, no more fear, no more punishment for those seeking or providing care.
We urge the @ec.europa.eu and the @europarl.europa.eu
to follow through on these demands.
Safe abortion saves lives. It is time for the EU to act.

The mechanism complements existing healthcare systems without undermining national sovereignty or the principle of subsidiarity.
▪️Participation would be entirely voluntary for Member States
▪️No country would be forced to change its national laws or policies

We support @myvoicemychoice.bsky.social, the 1.2 million signatories, and the activists, doctors, lawyers, and those directly affected.
Their voices highlight a harsh reality: when access to safe abortion is restricted, people are left without the healthcare, dignity, and equality they deserve.

The message from today’s hearing was clear:
Abortion bans do not stop abortions; they only force people into unsafe and life-threatening situations.
A solidarity mechanism, as proposed by @myvoicemychoice.bsky.social, would be a vital step towards ensuring safe abortion care for all who need it.

Cuba: The State represses women human rights defenders
The Cuban government must put an end to institutional gender-based violence against women human rights defenders, journalists, and activists.
A new @amnesty.org report reveals how the Cuban state systematically targets women activists, journalists & rights defenders.

Let's fight for a simple, clear, and effective European definition of rape
Citizens are demanding clarity, justice, and safety. The European Parliament must respond with unity and courage.
Sex without consent is #rape.
Yet, this is still not ensured all over the EU.
Thanks to MEPs Scheuring-Wielgus & Incir and all others who continue the fight for a consent-based definition across the EU.
