Ahead of an upcoming vote in the @europarl.europa.eu, @amnestyeu.bsky.social urges policymakers to reject the false sense of urgency in negotiations, ensure respect for human rights in practice & reject externalization measures doomed to result in rights violations & offshore deportation detention.

Participants discussed the extensive implications of the proposal – including for non-refoulement, access to rights & alternative permits, protection from arbitrary detention in the EU & third countries – and urged EU institutions to avoid measures that violate international law.

Insightful discussion on the human rights risks in the EU’s return proposal at a panel organized by @amnestyeu.bsky.social & OHCHR Europe, in collaboration with @ceps.eu & @picumofficial.bsky.social, bringing together policymakers from across EU institutions, UN experts, civil society & academics.

As @evegeddie.bsky.social stated yesterday, @amnesty.org’s research & evidence show return hubs cannot be human rights compliant.

They risk arbitrary detention in third countries, violating the right to liberty, protection from torture & refoulement, and leaving people in prolonged limbo.

We were very pleased to speak at #CEPSLab2026 alongside @commissionerhr.coe.int on the EU’s return proposal.

We share the Commissioner’s concerns & are deeply alarmed by the weak evidence base & the false urgency driving negotiations, given the reform’s major human rights implications.

The #MyVoiceMyChoice proposal was concrete, creative, ambitious, in line with EU law, and in support of sexual and reproductive health rights, a priority under the EC Roadmap for Women’s Rights.
We count on the Gender Equality Strategy to include strong action on SRHR.

It is groundbreaking that the Commission will actively support member states to use EU funds for access to abortion care! It is now up to member states to make abortion access as wide as possible, while ensuring all others in need of ESF+ funds are not negatively impacted.

The Commission’s response, however, does not bring new resources. Instead of bringing direct EU financial support to this important matter of health and human rights it takes away resources from other marginalized groups where they are also urgently needed.

Civil society open letter to the European Commission in support of My Voice, My Choice - Center for Reproductive Rights

The EU_Commission’s response to the #MyVoiceMyChoice ECI is positive! Congrats to all involved!

The strong & urgent call from more than a million EU citizens, civil society organisations, the @europarl.europa.eu and many other experts was partially answered.

Kudos to the @myvoicemychoice.bsky.social team for the excellent work writing #MyVoiceMyChoice ECI, mobilizing people across the EU and beyond, and advocating on behalf of those in need of affordable and safe abortion care!

This is a win! We stand with you as the fight continues!

πŸ‘‰Angola must conduct timely, effective investigations into evidence on use of commercial spyware and digital threats against the country's civil society and media.
πŸ‘‰The EU must tighten export controls and increase transparency, oversight & accountability of the spyware trade.

Spyware is not a neutral tool. When deployed against journalists & activists it becomes an instrument of repression, incompatible with human rights.

Unchecked sale & use of surveillance technologies, linked to EU-based companies, risks facilitating human rights abuses worldwide.

Prominent Angolan journalist Teixeira CΓ’ndido was targeted by Predator, a highly invasive mobile phone spyware.

Today EU and Angolan ministers meet in Brussels - an opportunity for both sides to act to curb spyware abuses.

A recent @amnesty.org investigation underlines the real-world cost of the development, sale and use of spyware technologies.

Ukraine: EU commitments to defend justice, accountability, and the rights of victims must not falter amid global uncertainty - Letter – European Institutions Office As we mark four years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and 12 years since its initial military intervention, Amnesty International issued the following letter to High Representative Kalla...

Now more than ever, the EU must uphold the rights of the countless victims of Russia’s aggression to justice, accountability, and reparations, and to firmly reject any attempt to normalize impunity for crimes under international law.

At a time when major powers become increasingly emboldened to flout international law and further erode the multilateral rules-based order, the EU’s commitment to defending justice, accountability and human rights must not falter.

24.02.2026 10:16 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It is paramount that the people of Ukraine receive truth, justice & reparations for the devastating impact this war has inflicted over the past 12 years.

24.02.2026 10:16 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Pressure on Ukraine to compromise on justice for war-related crimes or accept Russia’s territorial & other demands in ongoing negotiations is as morally repugnant as it is unlawful.

Impunity must be challenged, notβ€―entrenched in peace proposals.

Russian forces continue to torture PoWs, terrorize & deport civilians in the territories they occupy, subject teachers to forcible labour, and indoctrinate children & deny them their identity.

All while Moscow demands control over more Ukrainian territory in 'peace negotiations'.

The people of Ukraine have now endured another year of full-scale aggression.
They face daily indiscriminate attacks.
Critical infrastructure indispensable for survival has been relentlessly destroyed.

Today marks 4 years since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine & 12 years since its initial military intervention.
2025 was the most devastating year in terms of humanitarian consequences & the deadliest for civilians since 2022.

πŸ‘‰Maintain scrutiny on human rights in the USA & speak out against measures that shrink civic space or undermine rule of law safeguards

The message is clear: @ec.europa.eu must act on #MyVoiceMyChoice & propose a voluntary EU-level financial mechanism to support access to safe, legal abortion.
