The haranir lore shit is so goddamn stupid like… you can literally look at them and see they are basically the “missing link” between trolls and elves. Why the fuck would they be OLDER than trolls when their entire build is more “evolved”, less prominent tusks, more distinct ears, etc etc… cmon

We can't ignore how much more palatable to the average white westerner the vague indigenous "lives with nature" is, compared to the "scary" specific coding of these "unwanted" cultures. Even the most racist of people love the noble savage, and we are already 20 years behind on these tropes.

Haranir are non-white coded, but they do not draw from any single culture in significant quantity, they do the vague Avatar indigenous + Black coding. They are an imitation of an imitation.

Trolls and Tauren are actually, at times almost 1:1, drawing from specific indigenous and Black cultures.

Plus it’s… just the story of the elves all over again. They also believed themselves the best and the oldest “real” civilization and trolls and Tauren and all other “primal” races were beneath them. It’s highly unoriginal - which isn’t the worst thing in the world, but it’s certainly not dazzling.
