Oh, @ugdsb.bsky.social, is a 17 year old science textbook the best we can do for our high schoolers? When the book is older than the students, you can assume the info is out of date. Like info on pandemics!

Never mind the jobs you had, tell me 5 classes you took in college:

1. Toxicology
2. Small animal surgery
3. Botany
4. Calculus IV
5. Animal behaviour

Ryan, I can admit that, while I typically am much further left than Lib, I initially thought Carney would be a good leader. But, I see now that he's a Conservative in all but name. I will be reaching out to our MP about policies, etc but can you recommend other actions?

We've got ISSUES. Literally.

We scraped >100k special issues & over 1 million articles to bring you a PISS-poor paper. We quantify just how many excess papers are published by guest editors abusing special issues to boost their CVs. How bad is it & what can we do?

My healthy 29 year old nephew, vaccinated (boosted?) this fall, tested + the week before Xmas. Was coughing up blood. Down for the count for a week. Scary stuff

When I was at the university, govt funding assumed PhD could be completed in 3 years. With animal studies, it was next to impossible to finish in less than 4 years. That was my experience, in AnSci

Interesting that it's an extra half year for 2 vs 3 degrees! Any thoughts why?

5.6 years. Is that after a MSc? I did my grad degrees in different universities but it was 2+4 years for me

I'll speak for myself, but I think most sane Canadians would welcome US tourism $ here as long as the Americans are clearly not supporting the current US gov. I've told my family that I won't be going to Worcester this year unless there's an emergency. They can all come here

Letter sent to CBC content and CBC Ombudsman today regarding the Cross Country Checkup

 Dear CBC Radio
I am a university biology professor. In my field there are some topics that are so universally supported by evidence that it does no good to β€˜debate’ them. Some examples? Evolution (it’s real), climate change (it’s here), vaccines (they’re amazing) and sex (it’s never been binary). To engage in a naΓ―ve β€œdebate” with someone regarding the reality of any of these topics does (at best) a disservice to those whose work has demonstrated the role these topics play in our lives. At worst, it provides oxygen, screen-time/bandwidth to actors whose goal is not further learning or understanding – but to malevolently pull at the threads that the scientific process has provided and (still) underpin our society.

The seemingly performative naivety in the CBC radio program Cross Country Checkup arranging an international call in show to promote a discussion regarding Trump’s comments about Canada becoming the 51st state falls into this latter category – it’s airtime/bandwidth for those who have malevolent wishes upon our Canadian society.

The elected leader of the nation across our southern border has made statements regarding their intent to annex our sovereign nation. Unless you’re a Quisling, that is not a matter for a pro/con list. Platforming quislings is outside the CBC’s mandate and beyond the journalistic best-practices that CBC radio has been known for.

US funding for basic science is very important, but this was done by *Canadian* researchers and the pharma company is *Danish* (you know, the two formerly close allies the US is now threatening).

The Human Cost of Frozen Funds This is anything but β€œpro-life”

"This is anything but pro-life."

Trump’s unilateral freeze on federal grants & aid is an unprecedented violation of the separation of powers. Jen Rubin and Meghan Houser warn of consequences for early-career scientists, marginalized communities and long-term medical innovation.
