Fibre arts, mostly spinning and knitting, some weaving, lots of fibre prep as I enjoy spinning from fleece, dyeing, the occasional bit of embroidery and gardening may sneak in.

10.11.2025 17:30 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Haha, yes, pure conincidence! We all knew it was going to happen, but certainly didn't expect it to happen when it did. It was a wild weekend that followed!
10.11.2025 14:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0In a car in the middle of the DDR, en route to Berlin from (West) Germany. Cue an 8 hour traffic jam on the border to enter Berlin. It was wild, and a unique moment in my life where I knew I was part of history being made.
09.11.2025 16:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Oh no, sorry to hear about the incidents, it can be a bit of a minefield especially around holidays!
Finding recipes isn't too hard, but ones that work can be.
Thanks again - as a fellow GF person I really appreciate you sharing the recipe!
09.11.2025 15:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Awesome, thank you!
09.11.2025 15:40 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0That looks amazing! Which recipe did you use?
09.11.2025 11:58 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0They went out in spring, so thatβs good to know!
I was planning on grating, maybe mix with a bit of vinegar, and then freezing so I can take out what I need when I need it. Flattened plastic baggies or ice cube trays.
Freshly dug horseradish roots lying in a stainless steel sink, still wet from rinsing. The roots are long, knobbly, and cream-coloured with some dirt remaining in the crevices. Green shoots are attached at the top of each root.
I used a little break in the rain this morning to start the garden clean up. As part of that I pulled out the largest of my horse radish roots. They did alright, I think - first time, not sure what I'm looking for! Would welcome feedback.

A close-up of the same clipped-on mirror, now reflecting a multicoloured blanket on a sofa behind the spinning wheel. The wooden body of the e-spinner and part of a notebook with glasses lie nearby.
A small rectangular mirror clipped to the front of an electric spinning wheel, reflecting the bobbin of dark green yarn being spun. The surrounding room, including a chair and shelving, is visible in the background.
This is the upgrade to my e-Spinner Iβve been dreaming of for years. Finally I can see both ends of the bobbin!

A tall, leafy green plant growing in a garden bed, with long, narrow leaves that have pronounced central veins. The leaves radiate outward from the stem in multiple layers, and other leafy vegetables can be seen blurred in the background.
Does anybody know what this is? It popped up randomly on my plot, and google thinks it's wild lettuce?

I still grow them, but have given up the hope of ever seeing a sizeable root. The greens are still useful, and they don't take much space, so they get a little corner every year.

03.11.2025 19:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Just checking out #gameOfWool, and itβs always a bad signs when the contestants wear better knitwear than the judges.
03.11.2025 19:04 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I can see how someone thought it was a good move for timing, but it very much limits what you can do, no? Now I'm really curious to check it out later.

I'm still learning how to do this better, and often being away for work during September and October makes autumn sowings really tricky, but even so I get more out of my plot this time of the year than most of my neighbours. Baffling!
Six small, pale green cabbages resting on a folded kitchen towel. A finger is lightly touching the nearest cabbage, showing their compact size and smooth, glossy leaves.
Several crisp leaves of cos lettuce soaking in a basin of water, their pale to bright green tones visible under kitchen lighting.
A small harvest of vegetables laid out on a patterned tea towel, including two green courgettes, two white radishes, and three round golden beets with reddish skins.
I am always surprised when the plot holders around me βput their plot to sleepβ by mid October. This is only some of what I got off mine today.
Those cabbages are a second head, grown after I cut off the first, normal sized ones.

Five vacuum-sealed plastic bags filled with homemade doubanjiang (chilli bean paste) arranged on a dark surface. Each bag is labelled in black marker with βChilli beanβ and the date β01/11/25.β The paste inside is a reddish-brown colour with visible flecks of chilli and beans, showing a thick, textured consistency.
I've been away A LOT over the last few weeks, and realised how much of a home body I've become. It's so good to be home again!
And what better way to celebrate than to ditch all household duties and make an exciting #ferment instead?
My first attempt at doubanjiang.

12.10.2025 09:59 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0A skein of hand-dyed wool yarn lying on a light surface. The yarn is tightly twisted and features deep charcoal grey tones blended with subtle streaks of rust, beige, and slate blue.
The same hand-dyed yarn wound into a neat ball, showing the colour pattern more clearly. Shades of grey dominate, interspersed with flecks of warm rust and pale taupe, giving a soft, variegated appearance.
The beginning of a knitted hat in progress, made from the same variegated yarn. The work is on circular needles with purple stitch markers visible. The knitted fabric shows concentric rings of mixed grey tones with hints of orange and beige.
I needed a good travel knitting project, and wanted to make another #musselburghHat anyways, but didn't have the perfect skein for it. So I dyed one, leftover from some long forgotten project about 10 years ago, SW merino/cashmere/nylon 80/10/10.
