Thankful that at least @vanhollen.senate.gov is pushing back. I would like to see @schiff.senate.gov and @padilla.senate.gov do so as well, among many many others.

Within the #heliophysics #budget, this (at least) impacts funding for GDC, as well as Science Activation (SciAct). It hits many more Earth Science programs and a few Astrophysics and Planetary programs as well.

This is MUCH better than many of us understood initially re: per award annual budget. There are still some key concerns, e.g., success rates, LWS-type science topics vs a fully open call, the budget still being lower than if Theory were solicited separately, uncertainty for early career inclusion...

#NASA SMD has updated and clarified the recent HFR solicitation (ROSES-25 B.2).

I searched the Epstein files for astronomy and astronomers, and consistent with Sean Carroll's posts about why his name is listed, it seems like Epstein was trying to rope in scientists they perceived as smart, and scientists tried to get financial backing from him. 🔭 Some examples:

‼️ If you’ve been following social media from CDC, be aware that with the exception of their Emergency and NIOSH accounts, all other CDC Centers have been told their socials are shut down and nothing can be posted on them.

And as Noé just pointed out to me, the Theory solicitation would have been solicited this year, which makes things much worst. 11 funded projects are finishing in 2026, each of which was ~500k$/year. That is all being absorbed into this HFR -- the people who need funding, NOT the money.

I'll remind folks that the HSR last year had an ultimate acceptance rate of about 11%, and that was with the HGI-O also being solicited. And that doesn't include the Theory solicitation being melded in.

‼️ In short, we are looking at significantly lower success rates for this HFR. ‼️

6) Competitive 3-page (dual-anonymous) step-1 proposals are due on May 1st.

5) Funds are similar to HSR at ~200-250k$/year
