Hunter Greene smacked around here, there, and everywhere isn't exactly what you tuned in to watch, but the stuff looked more than fine for his first outing of the spring.
Will be interesting to see if he's back out there in the 2nd for some more refining.
Believe it or not, the Cincinnati Reds play a baseball game tomorrow that you'll be able to watch on your screens with your own eyes, or eyes of another if that's something you can do!
Clear your schedules - Hunter Greene gets the start with a 3:05 PM ET first pitch!
To each their own!
(I don't.)
He's got his perks! No doubt about it!
I think my thought process is more trying to highlight that even if the Reds thought he had that bounce-back potential, they didn't acquire him at any discount despite how far his bat had dipped. They paid full price (and then some)!
232 MLB players have logged at least 500 PA against RHP since the start of 2024.
Hayes ranks last (.287 SLG). 2nd worst isat .310.
His 58 wRC+ against RHP in that time? Also totally, completely last.
I don't know exactly where I'm going with this, but it's worth putting out there that Ke'Bryan Hayes has 'slugged' .299 in 966 PA dating back to the start of the 2024 season.

Almost had another, but it ended up a 2-run double (and he got thrown out trying to make it into a triple).
Reds are pouring it on the Padres bullpen right now in the 5th. They're up 8-3.
Elly De La Cruz has his first triple of the Cactus League campaign, so that's pretty cool.

You couldn't see the Reds walk off the Royals, but it was probably pretty cool!
Also this is the first (and only) known photo of a gum bubble *and* Geno where the gum bubble does not belong to Geno.
here's what it probably looked like since MLB won't let anybody see it for real:

Elly and Geno blasting back to back dingers?
Yeah, my 2026 is going to need a whole lot of that.
The Reds are rolling out a lineup with Friedl, McLain, Elly, and AU-Henny-O atop it, with first pitch scheduled for just 10 minutes from now.
No, of course you can't watch it! Why would you think you'd be able to watch it?!
You can talk about it with us here, though:
It's still just a very, very small sample, but there's at least a little bit in the numbers to suggest that Hayes is modifying the way he approaches each PA.
Even if he's never going to slug, perhaps it will get him on base a bit more often.
On that:
I've been looking at batted ball data from Ke'Bryan Hayes off and on for two days trying to figure out if there's some way, any way for the Reds to 'fix' him and my conclusion is that he should probably just never, ever swing and just hope he gets walked.
23.02.2026 22:59 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 7 π 1Given what we know (nothing) so far (even less), here's our first stab at the Opening Day roster of the Cincinnati Reds, something that will surely change minute by minute from the moment it was posted:

Pretty cool Chase Burns mention here if you read down enough.
Also an Edwin Arroyo sighting π
Thought the Derek Johnson/Vandy pipeline might land him with the Reds, but I think he's got a clearer path to the Padres rotation than he would have in Cincinnati.

JJ Bleday and Will Benson hit from the left side, but they've got minor league options remaining. If they struggle in camp, or if Spencer Steer looks spry in LF, carrying lefty Nate Lowe on the roster in the 1B/DH mix might make a whole lotta sense.

Never hurts to have another 1B guy around, though the list is getting stacked at AAA/AAAA with CES and Toglia already there.

MLB apparently approved Phil Castellini as the new owner of the Cincinnati Reds.
Sell the team, Phil.
There's still at least one thing missing from this Cincinnati Reds roster, and there's one player in particular who may be the right fit.

How will the Reds juggle the 5th starter in their rotation to get through 162 games?
Will they do it like with chainsaws, where you've got to throw them extra high in the air? Or with, like, ping pong balls where you can mess up and hit yourself in the head every now and then?
Congrats to Tyler!
Still a bit befuddled this ended up going to a hearing over just a ~$250K gap, but so it goes.
