Commuters disrupted as north Dublin hit by heavy rain Follow developments as flooding is being reported in parts of the capital, with north Dublin particularly impacted.

By lifting the Dublin Airport passenger cap, delaying funding for public transport that has planning permission and opening the door to commercial LNG, Minister @darraghobrientd.bsky.social's message to his constituents seems to be: prepare for much more climate chaos.

Palestine Action have WON their judicial review in the High Court!
A massive victory for free speech, freedom of association and the right to protest.
A massive defeat for the draconian attempts by Keir Starmer's government to curtail our fundamental rights.

This is honestly the stupidest thing I've heard in a long time- banning the use of the words burger & sausage on plant based products.

The world is burning & war ravaged, & this is what our Parliamentarians think they need to 'fix'?

"No recollection or records" now vaults over "on mature recollection" to the top of the phrases-that-sank-an-Irish-Presidential-election-campaign charts. In both cases a considered "recollection" proved to be in contradiction with the truth and sank a @fiannafailparty.bsky.social candidate.

Sally Rooney: I support Palestine Action. If this makes me a β€˜supporter of terror’ under UK law, so be it I would happily publish this statement in a UK newspaper – but that would now be illegal

Sally Rooney won’t be 35 until February. But can we elect her President in October, let the presidential commission do the job for a few months and have her inauguration on her birthday? You have to be 35 to be President but do you have to be 35 to be elected? www.irishtimes.com/culture/book...

We now have ESBN & GNI on record that they can't prevent data centre connections. Upshot is no limits on data centres outside of Dublin + expansion of sites in Dublin - skyrocketing demand, impacts on housing, higher costs, gas dependency & emissions. Urgent need for legislative + policy change!

πŸ“†Today is the EU deadline for Social Climate Plans.
In Ireland:
❌ No plan published
❌ No public consultation
These plans are needed to access EU funding to help with heating & transport costs, especially for lower-income households.

Good to hear @micheal-martin.bsky.social at #NED25 reiterate the β€œexistential challenge of climate change”, the growing threat from storms like Eowyn, and commit to accelerate #ClimateAction, β€œdoing more and faster”.
But we haven’t seen decisions and delivery to match that rhetoric so far.

Lip-service or a lasting legacy on climate? | Eolas Magazine eolas Magazine is Ireland's leading policy, politics and business magazine which reaches over 10,000 senior decision-makers and influencers in government, business and the voluntary sector

My take on @micheal-martin.bsky.social's climate reputation after a few months back as Taoiseach, for @eolasmagazine.bsky.social.
He's undone much of the work he'd done to be regarded as serious on climate change. What he does next will determine his legacy.

For the rest of us? We need to stop. Not only does the International Council on Clean Climate (ICCC) reckon that the extra weight and bulk of SUVs outmatches the gains in efficiency we’ve made with improved petrol engines and electric power, but more recently Imperial College London has released a study that shows you’re 44 per cent more likely to die if you’re struck by an SUV as opposed to a more conventional saloon, hatchback or estate. For children, chillingly, that figure rises to 130 per cent. I’ve been known to soften my SUV stance in the face of examples that are charming, or stylish, or notably comfortable, practical or good to drive, but those figures are enough to make any potential SUV purchaser blanch at the prospect. Or, at least, they ought to.
