The 45Q tax credit in the Republican spending bill pays oil companies $80 of taxpayer money per ton of CO2 that they squirt into old wells to push up more oil. This could well mean *paying oil companies to pollute the climate*, to the tune of ~$400 per ton of CO2 emitted. A negative carbon tax.

The more I think about it, the more insane it is that the entire climate movement isn't mobilizing against data centers. They are clearly a way to continue, if not expand, fossil fuel use, they are extremely water intensive, they prey on desperate communities without creating many long-term jobs 1/
