It turns out, these documents were not sealed; rather, they had just been "lost" for awhile.

These documents become some of the most important evidence in the film and are vital to seeing how administrators think.

A lawyer associated with this case had tried to get these documents for years but couldn't get them.

Through luck, I found someone at an archive who was willing to go pull these boxes and makes copies of *every single document* in them.

One of my favorite research "wins" for this project came with a bit of luck.

For years, I had heard of a few court cases from the 1990s that were sealed. Those court cases had depositions from alleged predators, letters and other primary documents admitting to the cover ups, and more.

@jamescsanchez.bsky.social, a mutual and colleague and friend, has been working on the documentary In Loco Parentis about cover-up and sexual abuse at elite boarding schools for 6 years

I first met Joel Fendelman when he reached out to me to talk about Charles Moore, Grand Saline, and my dissertation. Those conversations evolved into me producing Man on Fire. Our creative bond felt natural. Joel has his mediative aesthetic and vision, and I felt I could fit with his style.

So, with that said, I cannot wait to show you all the film that so many people thought we abandoned!

It took this long because this is a story that needed time to find cohesion. We have tens of thousands of pages of court documents. Interviews around the country. Built relationships with some of the bravest people I know. These things needed time.

Man on Fire took us one year.

We now are six years into making In Loco Parentis.

Over these six years I have had many people related to this story say "Oh you're still working on that?" or "I figured you would have given up by now!" when I reach out from time to time.

4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment In the past two years, without much notice, solar power has begun to truly transform the world’s energy system.

It's disturbing that the story has hardly been told, so people hardly grasp how profoundly different (as in better) the possibilities are than they were not long ago. And that California, among other places, is realizing those possibilities. @billmckibben.bsky.social did a great piece on that:
