MTG announced that she's retiring, not immediately but effective Jan 5, 2026. She was sworn into office on Jan 3, 2021. Is she waiting an extra few weeks so she can get a congressional pension?

And like - yes, I know people who do it. That's awesome. But I think there has to be some space between classifying people as urbanists/people who will live in cities no matter what, and people who are a lost cause and live in suburbs. There's so much space in between!
19.11.2025 16:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0yup. and our kids school currently is the opposite direction of public transit, and my spouse works in the city, plus the start time of school + work don't align really at all, so there are a lot of factors that make it nearly impossible to navigate w/o cars.
19.11.2025 16:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Absolutely. I had one kid who refused to every go in a stroller, and it really impacted our transit decisions - plus with 2 under 2, a car made it way easier for all the drs appts yes but also just schlepping around. I think having one kid, or older kids, in a city is v. diff than young kids.

Trump's economy is being held up by a massive AI bubble.
A recent study found that of 300 companies that owned generative AI tools, 95% reported zero return on their investments.
We will not entertain a bailout of these companies should this bubble pop.
I'm seeing people asking "Why would parents even buy this for their kids?!" And the thing is--they wouldn't. But you know who would? Grandparents. And then, as a parent, you're stuck. Because if you try to get rid of the murder toy, the kids will rat you out to grandma, who will guilt you forever.

19.11.2025 14:15 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0My deepest hope for retirement is a small one-bedroom condo in the city, and a small place by the water in a walkable community, with a car merely for getting between the two, and going to drs appointments.

19.11.2025 14:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I often wonder how we can accurately categorize people's housing and car preferences. I didn't own a car until my mid 30's, when I needed one to access medical care. I didn't move to the suburbs with any sense of glee - rather, that was where housing was affordable. And yet, I do enjoy the yard.
