Some pre-rendered animations subdivide/smooth the models when rendering, yeah!
It's a different workflow, and if set up properly you can get some really nice soft looking characters with it.

It would have some extra loops in deformation areas such as the mouth, elbows, hands and fingers, etc. Putting those in at this step would cause them to get too dense when subdividing.
And also just triangulate on top of the head to terminate all those edges rather than redirect them to keep quads.

In today's stream we wrapped up the retopology pass for the body so all elements are combined and we'll have an easier time sculpting the last highpass of the body.
It's not exacly animation topology. It focuses more on equal quads for clean subdivisions. We'll do another round over it at the end!

Doing a retopology pass over the body so it's all attached and clean loops for the polishing pass of the sculpt.
Next week we'll continue with the head and do the hands.

Hey, I made a Blender add-on for game assets!

It fixes all the problems with Blender-to-Unreal FBX exports, and makes it easy to manage multiple anims in 1 .blend file

I just pushed a new update that adds more options to the FBX exporter

Chimera Gargoyle - An original creature concept by Kofu. 

This is a thumbnail of the model focused on his head. He wears an intimidating expression. This model was created from scratch by Kofu for the ZugZug Studio Gothic Fantasy Art Challenge. 

Character Synopsis:

This creature features a lion-shaped head, with a body that is reminiscent of gothic-style gargoyles. He is dark stone-blue with scars of gold strewn across his body. His eyes and maw glow a piercing yellow-orange, and he wears an intimidating expression. He has a set of horns; one of which has broken off. 

This is a fully Game-Ready creature model with hand-painted textures. This model is comprised of 26084 triangles, and a texture resolution of 2 x 4096px UDIM's. 

Sculpted in ZBrush, Retopologised and Rigged in Maya, Baked in Substance Painter, Textured in 3DCoat and Photoshop, and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.
