I get that taste is subjective & that people experience every thing differently but it just seems like so many folks can’t enjoy a movie unless it’s exceptional while all I need from a movie is for it to show me a good time. If it makes me laugh, cry or leaves me with a smile on my face? I love it.

Also, somewhat related, but I am forever grateful that I can just enjoy & love movies without needing them to be total masterpieces. Maybe it’s just exposure to online reviews but man does it seem like folks have a hard time just having fun with a film now’a days.

While only adapting a couple of plot points from that book, this felt more like The Lost World novel than TLW did. Being that TLW is one of my favorite books of all time, this made me incredibly happy.

Jurassic World Rebirth was incredible & is the best non-Spielberg film in the franchise. Terror, wonder & spectacle with a great soundtrack, fun characters & brilliant set pieces.

Jessica Jones is my favorite Marvel character of all time and Krysten’s portrayal was PHENOMENAL. I’m so happy to have her back & can’t wait to see what they have planned

Even beyond reuniting xenomorphs and yautja on the same screen, just the sheer potential of fuckery WeyYu could get up to involving the addition of Predator lore to the sandbox is just a goldmine of potential fucked up stories. I can’t wait to see where they take all of this

Seeing a Weyland Yutani synthetic in the trailer for a Predator movie is the most hype moment of any movie trailer for me in a very long time. My jaw literally dropped. Combing the worlds of Alien and Predator in a futuristic sci-fi setting away from Earth on film has been a long time coming.

Our rental this time around has a smart TV with a 24/7 @mst3kofficial.bsky.social channel and I now know how I’m spending Easter weekend.

I also have to give the movie props for making me say out loud “are…are they actually gonna kill the fucking kids?” not once, but twice. This was just fun. This & Godzilla vs Megalon would be a great Showa era kaiju double feature.

Gamera vs Guiron: Two boys are captured by hot alien women who want to eat their brains why Gamera fights a sentient butcher knife that shoots ninja stars out of its face. 10/10, I have no notes. This was cinema. Absolutely my new favorite & that’s not a bit.

Gamera vs Viras: definitely the weakest thus far but I could see this being a great intro for kids as it’s really just a recap of the first three films with a fun sci-fi plot. I respect the audacity to use the black & white destruction scenes from the first movie as if no one would notice.

Continuing my Gamerathon for Gamera’s 60th and documenting my thoughts, a thread. This time it was a first time watch double feature of Gmara vs Viras and Gamera vs Guiron:

Gamera vs Gyaos: Now this is what I’m talking about. Cheap but creative Kaiju fights, surprisingly innocent but bloody as hell with fun characters & solid spectacle. There’s a lot of clever ideas here that are executed really well considering the budget. Definitely my favorite so far.

Gamera vs Barugon: Barely a Gamera movie as he’s hardly in it but a fun film, it has one of the more compelling human plots of a Showa era film. Barugon is a fun design with unique abilities & I do like how Gamera just shows up to finish the job like “fuck it, leave it to me I guess.” Solid.

Gamera: The Giant Monster: Clearly made on a fraction of the budget Godzilla films were given, this one has charm & is a solid kaiju flick. Christ alive do the American actors make “Take that you, dinosaur” from GvKG sound like an Oscar worthy line delivery but it adds to the fun. I dig it.

Watching the entire Gamera series for the first time for his 60th b-day & will chronicle my thoughts below, a thread. I’ve watched the first 3 this weekend, so here we go:

Plus, can we admit how wild it is that they managed to make Kong, a completely computer generated character with no speaking lines, one of the most compelling & lovable leads in a modern blockbuster franchise? GxK is fantastic for that aspect alone & and I’m still impressed.

I feel like the Monsterverse is truly a blend of the best parts of both the bulk of Showa & Heisei era Godzilla films. They’re so much fun & have way more heart than people will admit. They remind me of why I loved Godzilla as a kid, & despite a lack of critical acclaim I’m glad they’re doing well.

Random thought of the day: the term “torch” is way cooler and better than “flashlight” for describing that kind of object. The US fucked up in renaming it.
