LRT besides the obvious negatives of AI use like power use, jobs, and ethical reasons, this is another major problem of AI: the increasing threshold to host hobby websites anymore. As datascrapers become normalized and server parts skyrocket, the little websites you care for are shutting down.

having written about how banning web scrapers from a code forge i host made it usable again and saved ~60€/y in power bill, let me tell you:

you cannot fathom the offloaded cost of GenAI on small web hosts. it is a veritable distributed denial of service to the entire web. Every web admin sees it.

if you break it you're my mode of transportation until it's fixed

To try out all these different places where it takes me an hour to make an account bc the servers down. Frankly, I don't have time to do research on all these platforms like some unemployed people do.

We got to a proper open, decentralized internet. But because "it was too confusing", we'll never see something like that. Even if nazis run the app, majority of people won't leave if it means they have to make another account and rebuild their following. So I'm sorry if I'm bit hesitant

Has to figure out how to make money (which discord still struggles to do). The reality is, having a truly free, open internet is impossible in a capitalist society without the shadow of enshittification. This is why I'm sad people gave up on fediverse so quickly, because it was the closest

I don't wannabe that guy, but jumping ship from discord to yet another clone isn't going to solve anything. Just because it's open source doesn't mean it's good/ethical (many AI models are open-source!) And because users won't join a service that isn't free nowadays, the clone
