(Version 0.6.1) Danielle Navarro (bookdown translation: Emily Kothe) 2019-01-11 Overview Learning Statistics with R covers the contents of an introductory statistics class, as typically taught to undergraduate psychology students, focusing on the use of the R statistical software. The book discusses how to get started in R as well as giving an introduction to data manipulation and writing scripts. From a statistical perspective, the book discusses descriptive statistics and graphing ๏ฌrst, followed by chapters on probability theory, sampling and estimation, and null hypothesis testing. After introducing the theory, the book covers the analysis of contingency tables, t-tests, ANOVAs and regression. Bayesian statistics are covered at the end of the book.
A screenshot with the following Welcome! Welcome to the online version of โDoing Meta-Analysis with R: A Hands-On Guideโ. This book serves as an accessible introduction into how meta-analyses can be conducted in R. Essential steps for meta-analysis are covered, including pooling of outcome measures, forest plots, heterogeneity diagnostics, subgroup analyses, meta-regression, methods to control for publication bias, risk of bias assessments and plotting tools. Advanced, but highly relevant topics such as network meta-analysis, multi-/three-level meta-analyses, Bayesian meta-analysis approaches, and SEM meta-analysis are also covered. The programming and statistical background covered in the book are kept at a non-expert level. A print version of this book has been published with Chapman & Hall/CRC Press (Taylor & Francis)
Here are two "I can't believe these are free" online stats texts books that cover both underlying principles and practical applications in R that I regularly refer to.

16.10.2025 22:01 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0You still need a really big problem/challenge for context (eg chronic pain) but keep it brief, one sentence
before defining the REAL PROBLEM, ie the specific challenge/gap you can actually fix (eg tackling heterogeneity in treatment responses with N-of1-1/ single case experimental designs)
Been working a lot on own & colleaguesโ grants recently
Many great proposals define the problem so narrowly that it leads directly to the solution the project offers

When I was an undergrad, I saw a talk by Oliver Sacks about music. During the Q&A, someone asked Sacks if he thought science would reveal the deepest mysteries of art. Sacks (a rare humanist among scientists) said that he doubted it, at which Eric Kandel (the host) leaped up and grabbed the mic.

Great advice on universities at risk of accepting the Compact: "Really all you need to do is get your campus to hand this issue over to a very, very slow committee!"

Interesting how companies and the financial world is racing to spend mindboggling amounts of money to build the infrastructure to train computers. But we are leaving the infrastructure to train and educate humans crumbling. The question is who will train who?
