From the kayak, I drift through a stand of cypress trees lit by the setting sun. The water glows with reflected amber and gold between the trunks. The image evokes an autumn stillness juxtaposed with the fire of fall colors.

Here, too. They always eat the hostas. This year, they also ate some hydrangea. This year, they completely chomped a sunflower variety. I put some mums out for the fall, and they even ate part of those! I figure it comes with living in the woods, though they seem more used to us now than ever!

The deer ate everything in our yard this year! Maybe due to the drought?

Seems like everyone in my neighborhood has had it. Fortunately, MDs near here seem to test and treat early. One person developed the symptoms while in Florida, and they wouldn't test for it until her Maine MD insisted. She was very sick, in ICU. So important to be informed and advocate for yourself!

Sunlight creates brilliant sparkles on the blue ocean water. In the distance is a pale blue sky with a few soft white clouds. Ocean waves crash and billow against the rocky shore. In the foreground, some hearty vegetation in greens and browns grow between the rocks. Sitting at the lower right corner, a natural pool of water in the rocks sits serenely, its glassy surface reflecting the sky and plants, a safe distance from the pounding surf, peacefully taking it all in. Hours before, it was likely in the middle of the fray, while the storm and tide washed over it.
