In The Meadow, Peter is shocked to find most candidates memory-wiped and the supervisors ruling with an iron fist. While trying to survive the challenges, Peter faces an impossible choice: - Escape: and risk a terrifying fate if the supervisors catch him. - Continue the trials: knowing he might be sent to space and leave his old life behind, forever.

CHOSEN 21 - excerpt: Caro leans toward me, and I can feel his breath on my ear, and the syringe against my neck. “Give up. No point in resistin—” He doesn’t get to finish the sentence, because a man enters the room. “Wait, that’s not the right syringe,” I think I hear him say, as he hands Caro a bigger one. He doesn’t seem to care at all about having walked into a room full of unconscious teens. They swap syringes, and Caro inserts the needle into my neck. I struggle against the ropes, but Caro grabs my hair and forces me to look into his coal-black eyes. He slowly injects the substance and says, “I’m watching you with a hundred eyes, Miles. Remember that while you sail off to your sweet dreams.” Then my vision blurs, and I sink into the dark.
