My first thesis study tested observation-contagions in golf putting🏌️♀️
Watching different actions led to imitative biases, but when the same videos were thought to be errors, biases were suppressed. Weak evidence of compensation when watched errors were unexpected.

Through updating of MI (the forward model) with the observed kinematics, and reduction of sensory prediction errors, activity reduces and behavior becomes more similar to the observed action. With this, opportunity for the illusion of agency increases.

In AOMI of congruent kinematic information, MI provides expected kinesthetic information while AO provides kinematic information through perception. Action similarities between AO and MI affords the association of multisensory information, and error detection

Situated in an internal modeling framework, the SCH reframes the roles of AO and MI as predictive processes, with MI being akin to the forward model, and there being an experience or instruction dependent involvement of the forward model in AO.

SCH instead proposes increased activity and enhanced movement outcomes to be driven by prediction errors, generated through contrasting observer (imagined kinematics) and actor kinematics (observed kinematics).

Previous hypotheses suggest the increased motor-related activity and enhanced behavioral outcomes are driven by either the coalescence of AO and MI representations, or primarily from MI.

After an amazing few years at UBC, I'm excited to announce that I'll be joining the Department of Kinesiology & Sport Management at Texas A&M University as an Assistant Professor this July.
