However, the 14th Amendment can’t do its work on its own. It must be implemented and its promise must be fulfilled and protected at all costs.

Happy birthday to the 14th Amendment. Its protections includes citizenship, due process, and equal protection. It is fundamental to building a true multiracial democracy.

Today, the trend lines are pointing to retrenchment from the promise of the CRA. But history shows that when the people fight for our democratic ideals, we win. Who will join me in this fight?

The 1964 Civil Rights Act was signed into law today, 61 years ago. It marked the beginning of redress for hundreds of years of discrimination. The expectation was that we were on the path of building a truly inclusive democracy.

SCOTUS just green-lit book bans in schools across the country under the guise of freedom of religion. Our schools should be a place of acceptance and respect, not fear-mongering about the LGBTQIA+ community.

Required reading for all. We cannot afford to be complacent as hard fought for rights are being rapidly eroded.

Today is the anniversary of Shelby v Holder when the US Supreme Court nullified an important provisions of the VRA, making it harder to challenge voting discrimination. The VRA put us on the path to being a true multi racial democracy. Congress needs to pass a fix so the VRA can do its job.
