I think this is very much a them issue and not a you issue. They have over 50 lists and they're almost exclusively negative, including super hypocritical-by-definition ones like this:

This is the worst time to go into animation. I think most animators would advise you to get a temp or part time job and study at home for free. There are so many no-cost resources out there now, and you don't need a degree to animate.

We would already be seeing a slump (companies shifted a lot of their budget into animation during lockdown but have shifted that budget back), but these other factors have put an extra squeeze on Vancouver animation specifically. A lot of projects getting picked up, crewed up, then cancelled, too.

It's a lot of things: BC messed with the animation tax subsidies in 2024, driving up costs
Tariff lunacy made a lot of investors gunshy since Trump extra-hates Canada for some reason
Lots of other countries are investing in creatives rn (ex: UBI in Ireland, up to 45% tax credit in Cyprus, etc.)

Yyyyyep. It was wild to see the LA messaging a little while back about how 'all the jobs are going to Vancouver' when Vancouver is at the lowest point in the last decade. The gov messing with the Anim subsidies (while other countries increase theirs) hasn't helped Vancouver, either.

The same clownshow administration that claimed it didn't have money for SNAP, healthcare, TSA, etc. seemed to scrounge up millions of dollars (in the couch cushions???) to bomb a bunch of school girls in Iran. "They got money for wars but can't feed the poor"
