Glad you got to sleep!

Not sure why I couldn't sleep tonight. But I did a bunch of Duolingo and I'm scrolling Instagram and Blue sky!!

The problem for me, in addition to being highly inclined to type it wrong more often than right, is that I accidentally saved "langauge" in my computer dictionary 🤦🏼‍♀️

I've also since found out there was an event earlier in the day where there was no interpreter 🤔

This definitely isn't over. One high level administrator said "we'll have conversations" and I said "we've been having conversations. This is my 9th year and nothing has changed "

He said, and I quote: "shucks"

So, the moral of the story, according to this event, is that the remarks of hearing people is way more important and valuable than that of deaf people. 6/6

Finally it was decided that they'll provide autocaptions. So I had access (somewhat) to the speakers but when I got up to accept my award, only two people had access to my remarks.

I asked the Chair of the Faculty Senate, the person who was running the show, if these are indeed our values or only sometimes and she said "I don't have an answer to that."

I stressed that this was not equitable but at an institution that supposedly values diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, this breaks from that. 3/

So I said the equitable thing to
do is to cancel/reschedule the event because not everyone has access.

This afternoon I went to an awards ceremony because I'd gotten an award. When I got there, I asked the person running the event if there were interpreters. We go back and forth a bit and ultimately she says they don't have one. 1/

And our license plates *are* our permits!

The moral of the story is don't pay a parking ticket until you verify the right vehicle has been ticketed!

Whoever issued the citation saw an O instead of a Q!

I got a parking ticket yesterday which was just the icing on the cake. I was mad about my $55 mistake. But I went to pay it, grumble grumble, and I saw it said "no faculty/staff permit". Obviously I have that type of permit. So I was like WTH. Then I saw it! The license plate number was wrong! 1/

Fortunately right now it's just Outlook for me. Do you have an Android? I wonder if something happened with Androids yesterday!!

Oh yikes! I'd be even more lost! I know some Hebrew but I can't read Arabic at all!

The problem is I can't change it back! It'll change back!! It'll change for a minute or so then change back 🤦🏼‍♀️ no idea how this happened!

My phone has decided that I want Outlook in Hebrew. I very much don't but every time I change it to English, it changes back. Guess I'll have to get used to it!

President Fry, As faculty, we are much more concerned about human rights abuses and protections for our LGBTQ and undocumented students than interruptions to our research. We have seen a lot more concern from Temple admin about grant interruptions than protecting the welfare of our students and staff. We are looking to you and other admin leaders for guidance about how we can best support people within the bounds of the law. Since the election we have not received any such guidance. For many of us, silence from our deans, chairs, and president is turning out to be a grave disappointment. As a faculty member in public health, a highly funded NIH researcher, and parent of a trans child, I am frightened about recent events and hope that your administration will propose concrete contingency plans we can all get behind.

I live 3000 miles away. I won't be at grad fest. This makes it feel like you don't want online students to attend commencement 🥺

@gallaudetu.bsky.social I only found out I was supposed to order regalia because I just happen to be an adjunct this semester. So I ordered it. But it can only be shipped to the bookstore to be picked up at grad fest in March. 1/2

The point of the story is there are many paths to the academy. They're all valid.

A secondary point is despite what my dreams seem to be telling me, I'm not gonna return to high school to finish that one course!

That I have a GED, BS, MA, PhD, and almost a second MA despite not finishing high school US history 😂

And for the record, I did take a GE course in college on early American history 🤣

My dream "but I have a GED which is the equivalent of a HS diploma, so can they really start taking degrees away when I earned them fair and square"

I woke up still feeling anxious and it took a few minutes to realize why and remind my awake self 5/

I was back at my high school and someone was like, "you're gonna need to call UT to see if they're going to retract your PhD since you never finished US history" and that got me next-level worried!!!

I usually know when I'm dreaming but I don't think I did last night. But I remember thinking in 4/

I needed to finish high school US history and I said "but I'm about to defend my dissertation in linguistics" and they were like "yeah everyone with a PhD in linguistics passed US history!"
