Watched episode 1 of the new season of The Diplomat, and it’s riveting. How I missed competent people working at the government, even if I don’t like them. You know, in these days, pure fiction.

Are we talking in North America? If that is the case I’m out of bounds, but probably Alejandra Dubcovsky knows.

It's such a joy to read papers from undergraduate students that, despite whatever flaws they may have, show a deep and nuance understanding of the materials. For me it's these small moments that allow me to remain optimistic and force me to keep trying to reach them through the class materials.

Check who is in control of Congress for each of these, with one exception:

You are awesome, thanks. The habit of St. Francis in North America? Where? Maryland perhaps?

Another question for my colonialist colleagues. Can anyone tell me why so many people decided to be buried with the habit of the order of Saint Francis? I find it everywhere, and it's not only white Spaniards, but Afrodescendants too.

I have it, it is excellent, and I have also used it. It's hard to find indigenous sources in Peru, beyond Guaman Poma or Garcilaso. I love this one so much.

There are always good documents, but the colonial period is always such a disappointment. Sure, let's have 10-12 chapters, but let's dispatch the entire colonial period in one.

Add the Ecuador reader and you get even a wider perspective. 😅
Of course you have to make do with what you can find. Sadly those are so limited in scope though.

Agreed. The coming together of all those sources was really valuable. It's a great teaching aid too!

Thank you Karen. This was also my impression, but since the Andes is not my most direct area of research, I was trying to get a sense from the real experts.

Yeah I have seen the Peru reader. That is more a general history of Peru though, not specifically about the conquest. As an aside I will say that the colonial content of Duke readers is consistently insufficient and superficial, while the 19th and 20th century are always much better represented.
23.10.2025 13:05 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
By a reader I mean an edited collection of primary sources about the conquest of Peru.
23.10.2025 12:54 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0
Does anyone know of any reader of the conquest of Peru? For Mexico we have Schwartz and Seijas, but I am not sure there is one for Peru. Thank you!
