I remember biking down this hill with my kid on the back of the bike. I didn't feel comfortable riding in the road so we took the sidewalk. But the sidewalk was covered in wet slippery leaves and so we had to get off & walk. There is so much excess road capacity here. Build the bike lane, SDOT.

WSDOT Advances Plan to Tame I-90 Ramps at Judkins Park Station Β» The Urbanist # WSDOT's concept would remove the northbound ramp from I-90 onto Rainier Avenue and improve safety at the other freeway ramps. A clear step in the right direction, the unfunded plan is not as bold as...

WSDOT finally has a plan to tackle the highway ramps that swirl around Seattle's next light rail station, a concept that includes the demolition of an off-ramp that mars a Seattle city park.

But transportation advocates are pushing the state to think bolder.

Adding Up What Urban Highways Really Cost A new report maps the economic toll that downtown freeways exact on 142 US cities β€” and tallies up what that land could be worth if it was developed for other uses.

A new report by @thedotcity.bsky.social quantifies the economic toll of downtown freeways, and the economic potential of tearing them down.

The 66K acres that downtown freeways occupy could yield more than half a trillion dollars of development and over $5b annually in property taxes.

Also, I would have more sympathy if it was really hot or cold. But it's 55 degrees. Totally survivable.

Got in a fight with another parent at school pickup today after I asked him to turn off his vehicle as we all waited around for 20mins for the kids to come out. He argued idiling laws don't apply if you're sitting in your car.
I hate everything right now.

looks like it was a separate pot of funding, but very very curious how that section got prioritized, as there were much lumpier and more dangerous sections not right in front of the former mayor's house bsky.app/profile/nond...

Op-Ed: Nobody Wants to Live Next to a Highway Β» The Urbanist # Cities must commit to downsizing their highway networks if they intend to meet climate and livability goals and expand housing in a healthy and equitable manner. Seattle must lead the way.

Yeah, I hear you. The Division work is so needed. However, at the end of the day, we have to keep feeding the beast that is highways in cities...

Looking at the FOIA it also became clear that the section that was repaved in front of Bruce's house was from a different bucket of Park's ADA funding.

We're not talking about a super controversial project here. We are just looking at $50K to get a few sections of heavily damaged path repaved to make it accessible. That Seattle couldn't even make that happen makes me question how they are managing larger projects.

Also, while it's lovely to know staff at SDOT and Parks got all my emails about the status of the repaving and looked into the delays, it's super frustrating that it took these FIOA requests to see that these messages were received as *no one ever responded to me.*

So this spring when you can't safely roll or walk along Lake Washington Boulevard, you know why.

When SDOT/Parks announced they were delaying the installation of multiple speed bumps in July 2025, they got lots of questions from media around that decision --- and they kept toting how they were still planning on repaving the path and making other safety changes. But no work order was created.

Distressingly, it appears Parks returned around $120,000 of State TIB funding that they didn't spend on safety improvements. We all know how hard it is to get infrastructure funding. So now when there's not the funding we need for speed bumps, sidewalk repairs, or other needed changes.

The work order for the repairs didn't even happen till October 15, 2025 (likely in response to our complaints). At that point, the city continued to deprioritize the work, and it didn't happen at all last year as planned.

So I finally got my Lake Washington Boulevard sidewalk repair FOIAs back. Guess what, former Mayor Harrell's administration designated the sidewalk repairs as "low priority." The repairs were slated to happen last summer. www.seattle.gov/parks/about-...

parks also needs to expand hours at pools that remain open. Rainier Beach gets hopelessly crowded (6+adults sharing a lane) because the lap times are so few. One hour on Saturday and Sunday is not enough. There are lots of hours the pools remain closed and unoccupied, it's a matter of staffing.

Proposed transportation budgets keep Spokane's North-South Freeway on track OLYMPIA, Wash. β€” The Washington State House of Representatives approved the 2026 supplemental transportation budget, emphasizing ongoing projects such as Spokane's North/South Freeway.

We may be gutting our urban forestry program but fear not, Washington State is still funding the construction of new urban highways.

Burley Piccolo Tag Along and Rack - bicycles - by owner - bike sale - craigslist Used, but functioning well Burley Piccolo with attachment rack. Great way to start riding with your kid before they’re big enough to 1) be trusted and 2) power themselves. 7 speeds I think.

Craigslist post for the tag along and rack

Me as a kid

Spring cleaning! Kiddo has outgrown the tag-along if you're in the Seattle area. Also, giving away this bike trailer (which was the one my mom used with me in the 1980s).
Probably better for cargo or pets than kids

I used to really fear 14th Street in Georgetown but the speed cushions seem to have made it a little better.
The stretch over Albro really is the pain point now from Rainier Valley to S. King County

Bike path repaved

Biked to Kent today and I couldn't believe the Green River trail is repaired already after being washed out in the recent flood...that's what you get if your bike infrastructure is flood prevention infrastructure. I bet if it was just a bike path repair would have taken at least 7 years
