The tattoo as I understood it, was an "anti Nazi" WWII tattoo somewhat similar to a road sign 🚫 but the command with good reason wanted to prevent any misinterpretation or judgment similar to your own. The mere vision of that symbol no matter the context elicits the same response from most people.

We were stationed in Kitzingen too, at Harvey Barracks, in the mid 90s. Really nice place. Shame on that Sergeant for having a hate symbol tattoo.

I was stationed in Kitzingen Germany in the early 60s and I was impressed with the enforcement of anti Nazi statutes. A Sergeant had a tattoo of a swastika in a red circle with a red lightning bolt through it and was under orders to cover it at all times to prevent any civilian misunderstanding.

I’m an American, but I was born and raised in Germany, so I know exactly what the Swastika represents. Displaying them is illegal there now. So imagine my surprise and absolute disgust at the news, that the U.S. Coast Guard, will now no longer classify the Swastika as a symbol of hate. WTAF?!

I just transferred my real Driver's license from PA to NJ and it will take up to 2 weeks to receive the actual license itself with my picture. Then the horrifying thought came to mind. What if I looked Latino and had no real photo ID to prove that I was an American citizen and only paper documents?
