Today, I'm working on regenerating 23.5 acres.
Not from a place of depletion.
But from a place of abundance.
The truth is:
A garden needs healthy soil
A farmer needs a healthy body
A movement needs healthy leaders
The pattern emerged:
β’ Heal yourself
β’ Heal your household
β’ Heal your land
β’ Heal your community
β’ Heal the planet
With each jar of sauerkraut and bowl of soup:
β My gut health improved
β My mind cleared
β My energy returned
β My capacity expanded
So I started small from an apartment:
β’ Shopping at farmers markets and actually talking to farmers
β’ Making incredibly nutrient dense soup (I call it super soup)
β’ Fermenting vegetables
β’ Exercising everyday
5 years ago, I was drowning in catastrophic headlines.
Every headline was a weight on my shoulders.
Every new study was another reason to despair.
My sphere of concern was crushing my sphere of influence.
Then I realized something:
You can't pour from an empty cup.
Here's the most important lesson about healing landscapes:
You have to start with yourself.
Gandhi once said that "to forget how to dig the earth and tend the soil is to forget ourselves".
But first, you need enough energy to pick up the shovel.
