12.08.2025 10:34 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I got back in the office from my summer vacation yesterday and spent the day catching up with emails. Alec had sent me a nice greeting after a conference. I replied without knowing he was travelling in Norway, let alone reported missing! I really hope he is okay :(

19.06.2025 21:23 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Seems like the petition is well on its way to make it given the current pace of signatures. I'm not even an EU citizen but I'm still super stoked that this one may actually go through
16.05.2025 11:24 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The petition says that it only needs to meet the minimum thresholds in at least 7 countries in addition to the requirement of 1 mill signatures. Currently 8 countries are fulfilling that requirement. But yeah, would still be nice to get other countries above their threshold.
16.05.2025 11:17 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I'm not too familiar on how these EU citizens' petition usually turn out but I feel like french people deserve an award for making up over HALF the signatures from their country
16.05.2025 11:00 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Moreover, and perhaps more importantly, all collected data in the petition is subject to GDPR: "Likewise, the initiative organisers and the Member Statesʼ authorities are subject to the rules regarding the processing of personal data set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (‘GDPRʼ)."

Only 1 day left to meet the criteria of 1 million signatures.

I really enjoyed this lecture by Jeroen. Some much needed perspectives in the geoengineering discourse as it stands right now. I'm also pretty intrigued by the book but the price tag is too much at the moment. Hopefully I'll find it marked down at some point.

13.05.2025 11:42 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Conveniently leaving out the fact that all of these tech-reliant fixes have their own risks and adverse side-effects, let alone need to be deployed at unrealistically large scales to even work. Seems like they may actually botch our "terraforming" more than they would reverse it.
12.05.2025 08:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I'm glad I could help out 😄 That quote seemed incredibly familiar but slightly off from how I remember reading it from Epictetus, which prompted me to look into it.
30.04.2025 14:23 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0From Enchiridion 5 (Oldfather): "[...] It is the part of an uneducated person to blame others where he himself fares ill; to blame himself is the part of one whose education has begun; to blame neither another nor his own self is the part of one whose education is already complete."
30.04.2025 12:17 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I couldn't find that quote in the attributed text in the discourses. The closest one I could find is in Enchiridion 5 and that particular quote seems to be considered a mistranslation of that sentence that has spread around quite a lot online.
30.04.2025 12:16 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Yeah I can personally accept that we explore the possiblities of extraordinary things that can be done to slow down, halt or even reverse the effects of climate change, but it is profoundly despairing that we have come to the point where we have to consider them at all.
29.04.2025 18:24 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The act of stopping global-scale SRM (SAI/MCB) in the middle of deployment is actually the part that we know is incredibly dangerous and risky. The temperature would rapidly bounce back to its original projected level and lead to a period with a catastrophicly unstable climate and weather.
29.04.2025 07:07 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Cynicism? No, it's kind of a joke that prods to fact that the philosophies actually diverge on the values they weigh on and the requirements for eudaimonia (among other many things) rather than if they are "stronger" than one or the other. Whatever would even give a measurement of that.

And no, having two out of nine member orgs dedicated to reindeer herders doesn't make the entire organization consist of reindeer herders.

Tror det skal være svært enkelt å ordne, gjelder bare om å kartlegge hvilke stedsnavn er samiske eller norske.
