Given her tragic backstory, she doesn't often open up or think about the past. But--sometimes--she has moments of quiet reflection, of vulnerability, where she allows herself to think back on what she's lost and long for the days she can never return to.

Reila, a summer elf, sits naked in a shallow pool. Her hands cross over her chest, hiding most of her breasts. Roses drift in the water beside her.

Reila is typically stoic, unemotional, and difficult to impress. Since those are her main personality traits, I to draw her like that a lot. One of the reasons I really like this piece is that I'm able to explore a more vulnerable side to her.

That's the smart thing to do, but I tend to have an "out of sight out of mind" approach to older sketches and unfinished works. And by the time I *do* remember, it's been enough time that the art looks bad 😂
I'm lucky to enjoy each stage enough to mostly work on pieces from start to finish.

There is something nicely soothing about inking a fully sketched piece.
I tend to go back and forth a lot. Sometimes, I LOVE lineart and hate sketching, other times I just want to color inside the lines, and occasionally, I get a primal urge to just block in shadows and do rendering XD

This drawing was meant to hint at her tragic backstory (TM). More will be revealed about that later.

Her default design belongs in a fantasy setting where she's a summer elf. The imagery I associate her with the most is plants, fire, and shadows, all of which are featured in this piece. She's gone through a decent bit of design reworks, but her personality has stayed the same since day one.

This is the first-ever drawing I made of my OC, Reila Hawthorne. She started out as a DnD character (Gloomstalker Ranger) but quickly became so much more. Now, she's my go-to OC and one of my favorite characters to draw.

For this art piece, I decided to use her human form since that was closer in line to the aesthetic of the outfit. I opted out of drawing her with shades because I wanted to see more of her face.
