The fact that such a thing is so normal is absolutely insane to me.

I regret that I've lived my life in the ways that I have.

To that I mean: I think I had a lot of potential to make a greater difference in the world, if I had made different life choices.

But perhaps I can still find a way to make those differences; even if it's not as a front-facing figure.

The fact that half of America can't recognize that electing a President who views the world through that lens is beyond a terrible idea, is so disheartening.

But it's not just him. There's so many foreign leaders around the world who treat people like toys too.

It's so deeply maddening.

What will it take for those in power to recognize that human life should be treated as sacred?

How have we advanced so far as a species, and yet this basic concept still eludes us?

It's honestly fucking ridiculous.

I genuinely appreciate everyone who's had the strength to be straight-up with me when I've acted in a way that was offputting & not okay.

I get in my head about it, but the reality is, you wouldn't have told me if you didn't think I had the capacity to grow and learn.

So thank you. Really.

But also, the real danger of all this, is that excessively self-flagellating can get you into the habit of spiraling over small mistakes. Internalizing little things as being representative of your larger failures.

As long as we're genuinely trying to do better, it is okay to fuck up.
It is okay.

We should absolutely express how sorry we are when we do bad things.

But there is something to be said about making sure you're not making too much of a performance of it, because it can easily lead you astray from the point.

Just do better.
Don't worry so much about how you're perceived.

I don't think I've been the greatest person in my life.

But, I realize that perhaps I go too far sometimes in leaning into the theater of showing how sorry I am, and self-flagellating, which in turn harms my mental health, and handicaps my ability to actually do better.

I think I just had an epiphany.

When people do things wrong in our society, I think the capacity for us to trust that a person can learn & do better is at an all-time low.

And as a result, the theater of showing how sorry you are, can eclipse the raw act of just, doing better.

Hibernate, stasis, cyrogenic freezing--That sure would be swell

When movie franchises take long breaks in between their sequels, it feels earned. it feels like there's something new and worthwhile for them to say because of the long gap.

Alternatively, when franchises shove sequels down our throats non-stop, it's tiresome.

I do think there's something to that.

I honestly get tired of life sometimes. But I don't want to end it all, because that can't be taken back.

It'd be nice if it was just possible to take a long break from being alive every now and then. And I don't say this from a morbid place, but just from a place of "breaks are good." Y'know?

It's so interesting how so much media carries the message of "life without death is without meaning"

But at the same time, the way we revive media franchises shows that the truth is somewhere in the middle: That perhaps life with long breaks in the middle is the true ideal

I think it's time to reassess what I really want out of life, and what kind of person I really want to be.

Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

It's honestly alarming how many people can't tell a voice is AI, based on the delivery & affect being flat as hell.

Strongly considering giving up on everything.
