Every time Western allies justify Donald Trumps breaches of international law, they pave the way for him to do it again, further sending the global system into a downward spiral.

Massive Israeli airstrikes on southern Beirut right now

The images from Iran are not really making it onto this site but they are so horrifying. I don’t really think bombarding oneself with graphic images of violence does any good but at the same time it really needs to be registering everywhere that all of the Middle East is on fire right now.

Al Jazeera reporting this too. Notable that Hezbollah did this, despite the blowback they will certainly receive from Israel, when Iran did nothing in the immediate aftermath of Nasrallah’s assassination by Israel x.com/babakvahdad/...

Historical context: It was also Dwight D. Eishenhower whose CIA joined British intelligence to lead a coup in Iran in 1953, the US' first regime change. In 1954, a consortium of US oil companies got a 40% stake of Iranian oil.

As Trump Bombs Iran, We Need to Reckon With the American War Machine We cannot afford to slip into despair. We must push back against militarism everywhere, at every turn.

"We in the U.S. need to reckon with the fact that so much of our state wealth, capacity, and technology goes toward burying children in rubble." Important piece by @neginowl.bsky.social

I’m really trying not to argue with my fellow Iranians. But it’s ridiculous to watch people who justified this war turn around & now tell Americans to be quiet unless they agree with the β€œpeople of Iran”—a group that conveniently means ppl who agree with them.

Not how U.S. intervention works.

The IRI will in all likelihood still exist and a dozen or more US troops and hundreds if not thousands of Arabs, Iranians, Pakistanis, and migrant workers will be dead for the aberrant, spasmic, nonsensical ricocheting mind of this decaying corpse of a man.

Trump keeps calling on the IRGC to lay down its arms. He did it again today. He also claims that "1000s" were calling the US - calling? how?? is there a 1-800 number? - begging for "immunity." Those are clearly lies. This is the truth πŸ‘‡

Unfortunately Twitter’s reach is still far more international. You can hear directly from Iranians in country far more widely and easily.

What difference does it make? We already know this is a joint Israeli and American war on Iran and so they share full co equal responsibility.

I admit that I don't understand the significance of knowing that it was in particular the US who located Khamenei. He was killed by an American bomb whether it was an Israeli or an American doing the bombing.

By the Israeli's own admission, recent negotiations were a ruse and there was never interest in a deal. Iran, per Oman, was willing to swear off enriched uranium stockpiling, which is essentially what America wants.

The point of the war is to wage war.

I was born in an Iranian prison. My parents were held in their jails. My uncles lie in their mass graves.
Nothing you can tell me about the crimes of the Iranian regime that I haven't lived in blood and bone.
That doesn't mean I want my people bombed, maimed, killed, their homes in ruins.
If your vision of liberation comes only through the destruction of innocent lives, then it's not freedom you're after.

I am pro Iranian people. I stand with them against their own government’s repression AND against the imperial violence in the form of bombs dropped from the sky from Israel & the US who have already killed hundreds.

I support neither imperialism or dictatorship.

Anyone interested in safeguarding democracy here in the US needs to contend with the fact that our foreign policy is largely both bipartisan and extremely unpopular. What is that if not undemocratic?

Watching how trump has acted over the last 13 months, it should alarm everyone that he has sole authority to launch nuclear weapons. He takes a perverse pride in doing things others chose not to do. He should not have access to weapons that could end civilization.
