Or perhaps American liberals -- living in a democracy that elected someone with whom they disagree vehemently, who is taking actions they oppose -- could extend the same basic understanding to voters in other democracies?

Hereβs the thing with Platner: what is his actual deal? We have a lot of information about this guy. He hasnβt been a longtime fighter for his community or progressivism or populist causes. He just woke up one day and decided to start saying the right words. Well, okay, a lot of people can do that.

Color me skeptical that Platner's entirely-performative schtick as rugged anti-oligarchy progressive will attract crossover voters while his entirely-real sexism, racism, and antisemitism won't ultimately repel base voters.

"Someone who tells you exactly what he thinks"
What Graham Platner thinks:
- Got a Nazi tattoo
- Called himself a communist
- Said Black people don't tip
- Called all police "bastards"
- Said rape victims should "not get so f**ked up"
The Two Towers: "This is but a taste of what awaits you" meme
Bravo, leftists. Pure genius move.
And unlike most of the GOP's bullshit, all of these claims are both accurate and in context.
This is but a taste of what awaits EVERY Democratic candidate this fall.

Their adoration of him completely gives away the game. All they care about are a few aesthetic markers of masculinity and a few populist buzzwords. Grow a killer beard, learn to shoot, and say "oligarchy" a bunch and they think you're literally qualified to be a United States senator.

I don't think folks have internalized how much state-level power Dems could win in 2026.
If it's a great night for Ds, they could win trifectas in all Biden-won states except NH, VT, & GA. That's 53% of the U.S. population.
If they also win GA-gov, Rs would have least state-level power since 2010.

Polling results from PPIC of the CA GOV race
In California, the top two vote getters regardless of party advance to the general. Hilton and Blanco are Republicans. We are in mortal danger of a Rep-Rep runoff unless some Dems drop out to consolidate the Dem vote. Villaraigosa, Becerra, Thurmond and Yee must leave the race immediately.

The leftist criticism of Ramanβs LA mayor candidacy is mindblowingly unserious.
The same folks who were clamoring for a Mamdani of LA weeks ago are tying themselves into pretzels to avoid supporting a credible progressive challenger.

Just remarkable that so many mainstream outlets ran stories claiming this film ($40MM acquisition cost, at least $35MM in marketing) was an unexpected financial success.

I suppose it's neither here nor there, and it's probably pointless and counterproductive to get involved, but nonetheless, I feel compelled to say: shouting down Ezra Klein at a public event is an absolutely childish, pathetic, self-indulgent way to cosplay activism. An absolute gift to fascists.
