Eilen Puistokatu 4:ssa oli töiden jälkeen sali täynnä ihmisiä katsomassa BBC:n Can Degrowth save the world dokumenttia. Tilaisuus täyttyi poikkeuksellisen nopeasti ja jonotuslista oli tavanomaista pidempi.

Ihmiset haluavat puhua kohtuutaloudesta ja planeetan rajoihin mahtuvasta hyvinvoinnista.

Juuri näin. Eikä mikään kone tuota sitä 200 vuoden aikana kehittynyttä ekosysteemiä, joka hakkuiden aikana tuhotaan. Puhumme metsistä nyt liikaa puumateriaalin, raaka-aineen ja hiilinielun näkökulmista. Metsä on kuitenkin myös ekosysteemi, lajien koti ja vesivaikuttaja.

Mitkä ovat niitä positiivisia ja negatiivisia vaiettuja aiheita, niitä aiheita joita emme halua ajatella, mutta joita meidän tulisi kuvitella ennakoinnissa?

Tulevaisuustyö jää vajaaksi jos emme pyri varautumaan vaiettuihin, todennäköisiin ja suurimpiin uhkakuviin.

Olemme onnistuneet luomaan kulttuuria jossa yhteiskuntaan osallistumattomuus nähdään tavoiteltavana. Joissain väestöryhmissä haaveillaan jopa nuorena eläköitymisestä.

Miten eläkkeestä tuli ihanne?

Voisiko rento arki läpi elämän ja osallisuus olla uusia hyveitä?

Meillä on valtava määrä ihmisiä joilla on sekä asiantuntijuutta että elämänkokemuksen mukanaan tuomaa viisautta. Eläköitymisen sijaan olisi hienoa jos meillä olisi joustavampia rakenteita yhteiskuntaan osallistumiselle läpi elämän ja jaksamisen mukaisesti, myös yli 65-vuotiaana.
