Clark could not be this GOATED if he tried
24.11.2024 13:16 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0bro what's so funny is that i think u can find a reddit comment of me saying
"it's kind of weird that n52 superman got the alien armor suit since he's easily the most grounded, human, and part of his community superman we've ever gotten"
and this was before i got knowledgable and such
Clark a fraud, attention hog, he could fucking never

I'll tone down the language next time
Non public Superboy so it's cringe, but we take our dubs
23.11.2024 20:39 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0...to operate, as Superboy existing as his own entity in the public consicousness allows him to better gaslight for Clark Kent's sake
23.11.2024 19:36 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I still think public is the right direction, especially in the modern day where independent child influencers are a big thing, and the social environment around openly queer kids is a little bit more accepting in America
Plus stuff like SV shows that him going public would just make it easier...
The real argument isn't really in him starting his heroics at manhood, because it really doesn't work in any context that has him have powers at a young age
He would have to operate at some capacity
The real argument is does he go public or stay secretive? There is something worth discussing
it feels like a natural conclusion to any discussion that includes him activating his powers at a young age, because he has to learn how to use them, especially if the Kents actually want him to use them for good
23.11.2024 19:29 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Like the Kents taught him the morals to be a superhero, but also they were unaware of how he was feeling and kept him trapped feel like fundamentally incompatible thoughts
and those years of stuff to do and learn include how to use his powers which is where Superboy comes into the picture
yeah i don't think it's unrealistic either, but the relationship he'd have with his parents would have to look fundamentally different to how it's portrayed if you want to make it work
which most interpretations except MoS and S&L don't do, which is where I accept it to an extent
@nicoleamaines.bsky.social MAKE JON AND CO. AWESOME AND MY LIFE IS YOURS

and then you fell into a depression because of the action, rather than the depression itself being the secret
23.11.2024 16:14 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0and they are, for the most part, forced to see him have explosive reactions thanks to them
i get the comparison, i really do, but it's not quite the same thing
the more direct comparison is if your parents knew you were queer and kept you in the closet for your own safety
yeah hence the kents needing to be more flawed than they're usually portrayed
and also I get the relationship with your depression, I've been there, but it's like if your parents knew about your depression and just expected you to cope anyway, because the Kents DO know about his powers
...Where Clark is blatantly aware of his super-powers and his background for a very long time.
Why didn't he start earlier?
What was he doing from ages 8-18?
...retconned to differentiate)
But then you hit stuff like ALL the origins Post-Crisis, where there was the JSA and other heroes, and the Kents seemed pretty optimistic about the world, and you ask:
Why did he wait? It gets EVEN worse in stuff like Birthright and Secret Origins...
The issue is the Kents NEED to be more flawed than they're usually depicted. Earth 2 Kents were pretty paranoid people raising a child in the midst of a depression, post Great War, and that helped sell the difference between Earth 2 and Earth 1 (even though E2 was planned to have Superboy but got...
23.11.2024 12:49 — 👍 6 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Or that the Kents are so scared for their son that they won't let him express himself. These are fine. I like these just fine. MoS does it, S&L does it, but even stuff like Smallville pokes holes in it because Clark's own desire to help triumphs over these fears, but still.
You can make it work.
Like was using his powers exclusively for chores? And then what changed? That he became an adult? That's it?
He's had his powers his whole life! Why not just...start helping earlier? Why wait? Some interpretations give the blunt answer of "The world isn't ready for him"
...his own desire to want to be himself ALL the way till his mid-20s? All these years with these powers and he CHOOSES not to do anything with them? After all that talk about the Kents teaching him to use his powers to help others?
Why was he not helping?
