I’m trying to take a page from Matthew Stevenson, but I feel woefully unqualified.

I went to a bridal shower today. if you think that Canada is at all insulated from the identity politics at play across the border, you are wrong.

The city/rural divide is deep. The distance between conservative and progressive is massive and moving apart rapidly.

I felt the same. I was wondering if had been rescheduled last minute or something? Or if a weather warning was stopping people from coming?

At swanguard we sat next to these little old ladies who are SUPER fans. Apparently played soccer their whole youth (sometimes on boys team). They totally fan-girled over Christine Sinclair. They were so cute. They flew to Toronto to watch the match. They are having the time of their lives.

Put on the NSL final. On now. CBC!!!

My crazy idea is to pull school buildings and land out of the school board’s control and place it in the city’s because communities treat these like they do their parks & rec centres anyway. The city can try to find revenue opportunities and school board can focus on education instead of facilities.

We play 8 kids teams per field with about 20 kids each, in 2 or 3 shifts. So what is that 400-500 kids in 5 hours? Our club out uses the best day on a golf course in just the after school hours.

But sure, put housing on an elementary school field and increase our field fees.

If we are looking for efficiency and revenue generating opportunities, with that revision we could bring back lucrative youth tournaments to Vancouver.

Or we could let Ken Sim golf.

Langara golf course supports roughly 300 players per day. It is ~120 acres. If you convert the whole thing to soccer fields it could support 35-38 fields meaning about 11,000 people per day.

So convert the golf courses into higher capacity sports fields, lease land for housing, put in gardens

So if the property taxes don’t rise. I take that extra cash and what…pop it into the bank account, earn interest and then get taxed by a different level of government. I’d much rather park trash bins get emptied more regularly.

I mean you can increase property taxes and still cut programs for efficiency, then with the excess build a fund/grant program for property tax relief for families that need it (over and above the deferral program) OR you can go for the political play that hurts more people than helps

I mean, they still have HORSES. Of all the unnecessary city services…police HORSES still are funded.

Again. People are PLEADING to be taxed MORE here.

I’m so proud of these vancouverites. No where else in the world would this happen.

And heads up to all those who drive Teslas in California, those windshield wipers were definitely designed by people who only drive in dry California.

Are we doing “forgotten gems?” Tsawwassen Town Centre mall there is a full I think 18 lane bowling alley under it that has basically become storage for the mall (and a place for teenagers to sneak into). Total 90s time capsule.
