Mongabay launches new desk reporting on, with and for Indigenous communities
Indigenous peoples play a critical role in protecting nature and stemming biodiversity loss worldwide, yet their perspectives and knowledge remain underrepresented in national and international media…
Mongabay has launched an Indigenous Desk to center Indigenous perspectives in environmental journalism worldwide.
The initiative addresses long-standing coverage gaps and has already helped expose exploitation, support community action, and inform official investigations.

OCASIO-CORTEZ STATEMENT ON
TRUMP'S COMBAT OPERATIONS IN IRAN
"The American people are once again dragged into a war they did not want by a president who does not care about the long-term consequences of his actions. This war is unlawful. It is unnecessary. And it will be catastrophic.
"Just this week, Iran and the United States were negotiating key measures that could have staved off war. The President walked away from these discussions and chose war instead.President Trump flippantly acknowledged the possibility of American casualties, stating "that often happens in war.'
"Mr. President: this was not an inevitability. This is a deliberate choice of aggression when diplomacy and security were within reach. Stop lying to the American people.
"Violence begets violence. We learned this lesson in Iraq. We learned this lesson in Afghanistan. And we are about to learn it again in Iran. Bombs have yet to create enduring democracies in the region and this will be no different.
"In moments of war, our Constitution is unambiguous: Congress authorizes war. The President does not. I will do my part to uphold our Constitution by voting YES on Representatives Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie's War Powers Resolution. Every member of Congress must join us in rejecting this aimless war.

Latest Twist in Chevron's Amazon Pollution Saga: Ecuador Ordered to Pay the Oil Company $220 Million - Inside Climate News
Indigenous and other Ecuadorians have lived with millions of gallons of toxic pollution from Texaco's operations for decades. Now, those victims' tax dollars will go to Chevron, which acquired Texaco in 2001.
We've worked with @amazonwatch.org to hold Chevron accountable for the gallons of toxic waste they dumped into the Ecuadorian #Amazon. A court ruled that they owe $9.5 billion – but they never paid it.
Now, Chevron is trying to get the Ecuadorian government to pay THEM!

Justice Democrats endorse Kat Abughazaleh in IL-09
We're so proud to announce our newest endorsement: @katmabu.bsky.social in #IL09.
Kat has spent her career doing what so many voters are desperate to see the Democratic Party do: fight back against Republican extremism and fight for everyday people.
Let's give AIPAC another loss.

So far, so good. Hats off to Colombia’s presidential fashion advisor: excellent selection of necktie for Petro. Wisely, he left his guayabera at home.
