Relevance: As with a CCPSA meeting held last month, the focus tonight is on CPD interactions w/ ICE and Border Patrol agents that may violate the Chicago Welcoming City ordinance.

CCPSA said it invited Snelling to participate in tonight's meeting to discuss those concerns.

Please read this article to the end. Even before ICE got involved, this started because this *blind man who speaks no English and uses a curtain rod as a walking stick* got lost on a walk and some Karen called the police on him and they tasered and beat him bc he didn’t drop the rod. WTF

TLDR: Jaime Andrade is pushing Facebook ads out that are paid for by Draft Kings, which is pumping millions into races across the country to influence gaming regulation, including dedicated funds for "electing dependable conservatives" and this was easily discoverable in a matter of minutes.

And I don't even live in the 40th, Draft Kings. Your data's no good and neither is your candidate.

I had the opportunity to ask Jaime Andrade today about why he is sending out mailers with lies on them. He said "you guys do the same thing". So it sounds like we all agree he is sending out mailers with lies on them

What Baker did sounds exactly like what officer Michael Spilotro did here: unnecessary chase, no lights/sirens, and failure to report the chaseβ€”but the crash Spilotro caused killed a man, he is up for termination, and the city just agreed to pay $22 million.

Baker was docked two days’ pay.

I do campaign finance research and fundraising is a place where A LOT of electeds are disingenuous with their constituents in part bc of the amount of money it takes to run a serious campaign.

I think a candidate must be honest (in fact AND frame) right off the bat when asked about their $.

My opponent, Pat Hynes, took $25,000 from a MAGA Trump donor whose family cheered when ICE killed Alex Pretti.

The Loquercios has given $372,000+ to Trump, McConnell, Graham, and others.

Democrats shouldn't take money from MAGA donors or people who celebrate murder. Return it.

The conversation turns to Pangloss' syphilis. When Candide asks what the β€œsufficient cause,” of his illness was, Pangloss explains that he received the disease from Paquette. He then goes on to list all the people the disease passed through before reaching him, beginning with companions of Christopher Columbus. Pangloss explains that syphilis, which comes from America, was necessary so that luxury goods like chocolate and cochinealβ€”an insect dyeβ€”could be brought to Europe.
Pangloss' long genealogy of his syphilis parodies the importance of genealogy to the aristocracy. Tracing the pedigree of your syphilis back to Christopher Columbus obviously proves nothing important, and the novel suggests that aristocratic pedigree is no different. This is also the first of many attempts to make the philosophy of optimism fit with the world's cruelty: Pangloss insists that his syphilis is somehow intrinsically connected to the many good things which come from the Americas.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.
