Apparently, march is women in horror month. Excellent! I'm reasonably good on the canonical stuff - Shirley Jackson, Daphne du Maurier, Anne Rice - and enjoy contemporary stuff by the likes of Catriona Ward, but could definitely be reading more widely.
Send any/all recommendations this way pls 📚
Well, no, they’re not just as wrong. The bigger error is not seeing that “trying to win over voters from a party on the opposite end of the spectrum, whose values your core voters oppose” is not same as “chasing voters from party on same side ideologically whose values your core voters like.”

They are the incipient signs en route to our unique magical brains being replaced by polypropylene & wire.

Congratulations to Hannah Spencer and the Green Party on a historic by-election win in Gorton & Denton, beating Reform and pushing Labour into third.

i’m tired of every paper (even critical ones) on societal impact of AI starting by both-siding the “benefits” and risks/harms of AI
in academia, i would like us to arrive at a collective reckoning that we don’t need to play both sides. it's totally legit to clearly state just the harms. period
My head's not in writing mode but would quite like to tackle something on this. I love La Jetée, and I don't think I've ever written about it. Any old excuse to watch it again.
26.02.2026 13:48 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Still from Chris Marker's La Jetee
For so short a film, Chris Marker's La Jetée has a very long tail, one whose reach we can trace through Terminator, via 12 Monkeys and now Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die. (Did somebody say diminishing returns...)

Third film of the day: The Worst Person in the World. Liked this a lot. I saw and loved Trier's most recent film, Sentimental Value, last month.

Film two in my sick day film fest.
Jethica: interesting take on drop out culture, ghosts - and maybe where the two intersect.

A reminder, one day ahead of a by-election in which the Greens are favourites to defeat Reform, that the Daily Mail owner's wife recently donated £50,000 to Nigel Farage's party
