Agree wholeheartedly with these criticisms of the new primary writing framework. Hopefully in application it will be more appreciative of self-regulation, context and an emphasis on the joys - and struggles - of composition.

I guess it's a testament to my generation that a) I can recite the dialogue after all these years and b) I intuitively know where all the ad breaks fell (from when ITV showed it at Xmas in the early 80s: a VHS tape worn to a thread with repeated viewing)

but allow specialists/more experienced to choose within the parameters of an overriding framework. Both are entirely possible and it mystifies me why they are often seen in opposition.
24.05.2025 09:20 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It was far from perfect but it's hard to imagine trying to create teachers who are 'ready' in nine months given the complexity of the job. Still, we survived and thrived :) and sincerely, great article. I always thought the best subject would have units ready to go (for ECTs and non specialists) 1/2
24.05.2025 09:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Brilliant think piece for teachers +leaders from my fellow PGCE alum @samgibbs.bsky.social - about how and why we practise: 'Ensuring a good teacher in every classroom is the best lever we have to give all children lives of choice and opportunity.' I can think of no better bottom-line than that.
24.05.2025 08:23 β π 4 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0Totally! Plus, phones conflate so many areas of our lives which were previously physically segregated. We can switch from work, to socials, to finance to fun, dating etc. all from one location, one device and in one minute... Plus all these things are skewed (algorithm) to my own preferences/views.

Inspector Calls is more friendly to less literate students and time pressured classes; as is, say, Jekyll & Hyde over Pride & Prejudice.

27.02.2025 04:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Great blog. My partner (Dr in education) researches group dynamics. One of the best practises is to allow groups to chat before beginning their task. Outcomes are consistently better this way (And not icebreakers, either!). Your blog reminded me of this: the fear of undirected, uncontrolled time.
26.02.2025 19:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I welcome this broader interpretation of reading. I know some public libraries, like Berlin, have fantastic digital provision. I've tried sourcing ebooks + audio books for schools and I'm open to hearing from those who have made digital lending a reality #hitmeup
