If anyone’s takeaway was “he’s saying let’s sing Kumbaya,” they missed the history lesson he was driving home.
He was speaking to how hate was defeated before—and reminding us what it takes to defeat it today.
We should listen to one of the very few experts alive who actually defeated the KKK.

We don’t yet know the extent of how deeply disturbed Charlie Kirk’s assassin was. We do know this: the day after the murder, at least a dozen HBCUs were hit with a wave of terrorist threats. That pattern is no coincidence. Someone out there wanted Black students to feel fear.

Wow! Listen to this list of acts of political violence. It’s not even complete, but sobering AF.
Now, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed in front of a crowd, and the video is all over social media. This needs to stop.
It’s another dark day for America. Another political assassination attempt—this time on a Republican. The last high-profile attempt was the murder of two democratic senators in Minnesota.
Violence is escalating, and it’s already beyond dangerous.
My thoughts are with him.
I was an assault boat coxswain on the USS Trenton LPD-14 in the 1970s, and we repeatedly bombed the bejesus out of that place in "operational" drills.
There is no doubt in my mind we have done unspeakable damage to the place and the people.
