We tried warning the Ontario government about online pet sales last year when they were passing the PUPS Act. I testified about the risks of unlicensed puppy mills selling dogs for cheap on Kijiji. Will this brutal case of torture finally lead to action?

The province could have cracked down on online marketplaces like Kijiji (which enable puppy mills) in their PUPS Act last year, but instead they ignored the problem. Ontario's dog laws need a massive overhaul and I hope this is the impetus to make real change.

Marineland's lawyer Andrew Burns (previously charged with breaking lobbying laws) has re-registered to lobby the feds, presumably for export permits.

What's more, farms got sometimes $5-8M in compensation for killing of flocks—including at least two farms previously convicted of animal cruelty after undercover investigations revealed abuse.

And a company the gov't hired to help kill the birds? Also convicted of animal cruelty.
