I haven't even listened to it yet. I'm not sure her being happy makes for a good album. While I do enjoy some of her work, I don't hinge anything on her. It's so weird when people do that. Rich people are rarely progressive bc it would mean parting w their money.

I don't know what it's like now, but Appalachian culture was so isolationist even in the 80s. The interstate finally got there in the 90s bringing in more tourism & out of area people.

So I'm from Georgia, and my family is from Savannah. But we lived more mid state for my dad's job in academic libraries. He got a job & moved us to North Georgia when I was like two years old. We were never considered local bc we "didn't have kin."

Summer Reading is over! #library

I'm really proud of what we accomplished this year. What made it great isn't all me. I had an idea, but I made space for the teens to help make this their own weird thing. And that's the secret to being a good Teen Services Librarian: you listen & make space for teens.

Teen Advisory Board helped figure out prizes & prize slots. They were insistent about making potatoes a prize. (We have library lore about potatoes). Y'all, the Library has awarded 55lbs of potatoes to teens. Most of the time they get the goofiest grin. It's the best!

Cue this year where I had the idea to make a Plinko board in the Library. I just built it from the ground up w help from 7th graders who are always hanging around in my programs.

I also knew I needed to build up the teen library experience. The job had been empty for a year so teens were pretty much forgotten. I had to get that on the map in my own way different from the previous librarian.

It was also right before vaccines were available for youth so we were still in a weird place regarding library programming. I decided to find my feet & figure out the community.

I'm proud of what I accomplished. This was my 4th summer at this Library. I knew I wanted to break the teen sr prizes away from the kids the first summer, but I came in late in the year.

I broke Summer Reading levels for teen sign ups this year. I mean like all time record for my library.
