On The Climate Brink: More about the DOE Climate Working Group report.

Some energy/climate math for the late night crowd:
Total Absorbed Solar Energy: 240 W/m2
Total human primary energy use in 2024: 186kTWh
(from ourworldindata.org/energy-produ...)
Converting: 186*10^15/5.1x10^14/3600= 0.1 W/m2
=> total energy from solar is 2400 times what we use.
Our 400+ page comment on the DOE climate working group report is now out.
Our conclusion: The merchants of doubt are back, and they're coming for climate science.
On The Climate Brink, I write about the DOE report and our response.

02.09.2025 20:28 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Glad to have been able to take part in this important effort, and to work with colleagues to provide a response to the DOE Climate Working Group report's sea level and tropical cyclone sections, in particular. Many thanks to @andrewdessler.com and @bobkopp.net for helping to organize this effort!

Say it louder for the people in the back: "The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than that needed to produce it."
This helps lend confidence to our climate modeling capabilitiesโwhich have improved dramatically over that same 30 year time span!

Keeping an eye on Typhoon Kajiki as it brings impacts to an area that we found faces increasing Typhoon hazards as storm tracks change in a warmer climate (part of our 2024 manuscript in @natureportfolio.nature.com's npj Climate and Atmospheric Science): share.google/SrSMsDA1fBxI...

The only hurricanes in the satellite era with pressures as low as Erin's but below Category 3 winds are Maria (2017), Irma (2017), Sandy (2012), Igor (2010), and Gloria (1985). Erin in ultra-elite company as far as large, powerful hurricanes go. Spectacular sight on satellite.

04.08.2025 16:50 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0โWho discovered that climate naturally changes and what are they saying now?โ
Should always be the follow-up question to this bullshit. Weโve altered the climate ourselves more in the past 20 years than nature has in the past tens of thousands of years
What an embarrassing country
01.08.2025 02:18 โ ๐ 34 ๐ 7 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Totally agree. Climate change isnโt causing big subduction earthquakes. But it is raising baseline sea levels along our coasts, and that makes the impacts of those earthquakes and tsunamis worse when they do happen.
