Not to unfairly criticise Tubi, because I do appreciate it greatly, but I'm going over the "For the Cinephiles" category to see if there's anything I should add to my already too long watchlist.

And "For the Cinephiles" is not the category I'd put Armageddon in.

I legitimately wonder just how much of a benefit squinting actually gives to dealing with some of that. Because I feel like it's non-zero, but still not all that useful.

Yeah, I think both in the regard of noticing brightness more and also being more susceptible to stuff like UV damage, which is why I was being asked about it.

More info from Duke, because it seems appropriate to cite the Blue Devils here:

It doesn't not work

When I first got glasses, I guess particularly because I have blue eyes (though haven't gotten glasses with a diff eye color), I was asked what I did for sun protection. I was confused, so they asked if I wear sunglasses or such.

I guess "I try to only be outside at night" isn't the normal answer

60% blue eyes, too. Maybe the issue wasn't the expectations, it was the country.

Wow, "Man in Finance" really surged out into the tail of the height distribution, didn't it?

So your imposter syndrome is just Groucho Marx.

Nice get

In our defense, the astrophysics/astronomy community was one of the earlier ones to have lots of people get suspicious of Elon Musk

It's how I cope with missing AIM still

Not to remind people of the passage of time, but the 40 year olds are the millennials.

It's not called an echo chamber unless it comes from the leftist region of the internet, otherwise it's just a sparkling discussion space

I didn't play Myst, but I sort of just presumed there was a solid through line from Myst to Blue Prince

Also when it deviates from basic spacial assessments into anything more complex that brains are less hardwired to do. Like, I dunno, geopolitics.

But yeah, that's not touching the deliberate bad activity, just that even in good faith I don't think it'd work in most areas.

It's like a wild extrapolation from "did you know if you average a bunch of guesses about how many jelly beans are in a jar you get a surprisingly good answer" to "well, the masses must always be right"

There should be, like, a few people appointed to put a show on YouTube. The issue is rarely "that one person", it's that there's a bunch of them

I like that there are three people, but the screen is still equal parts Nick and Josh. Perfectly balanced.

There's a special kind of excitement that comes with seeing one podcast you like ( @stillloadingpodcast.com ) is in the discord of another podcast you like ( @smashinggametime.bsky.social ) and actively recording.

Eager to check out the episode later today

This has a real danger of turning into another bad gimmicky cartoon from decades ago that I end up watching.

My wife really loves when I find more of those.

Maybe it's the hair, but is Rocket Robin Hood just a discount Superman?

Behind a cloud is a KIND of eclipse

We don't know who struck first, us or them. But we do know it was us that scorched the sky.

I still have a moderate grudge against clouds from 2012. If not for them, I would've been able to see that I saw a solar eclipse, a lunar eclipse, and the transit of Venus in like a month or so.

I did go look up at the clouds to see where the moon was supposed to be, still, though.

But would it reach the level of epic furry?

I so enjoy that moment 10-20 minutes into a weird movie I've gone into blindly when it does something that makes me think I may have found gold.

I watch so many things that let me down to find these moments. Now it's got to keep this going for another hour.

I hadn't thought about that angle for it (more the marketers themselves) but that does complexify things.

A strong contender for "most tone deaf use of advertising"

I think of Apple TV more as the place shows/movies go to never be heard from again
